David Nigel Lloyd is an arts in education consultant, a teaching artist and performing song poet.In 2008, prominent arts education author and authority Nick Rabkin invited DNL to join the Advisory Board of his Teaching Artist Research Project, the first nationwide study of the phenomenon of the teaching artist. The project was conducted by the National Opinion Research Council at the University of Chicago. Mr. Rabkin released the findings of the study in September, 2011.From 2003 to 2009, DNL served as Director of Arts Programs for the Arts Council of Kern. He trained artists to work in schools and became involved in the national dialogue on the demise of arts in education. In 2008 he oversaw ACK's affiliation with Young Audiences/Arts 4 Learning.From 1998 to 2003, he was himself an artist in the Arts Council of Kern's Artist in Residence Program. He taught ballad singing in elementary schools throughout Kern County and co-wrote A LAEP for Success, the Kern County Superintendent of Schools' manual on lesson planning and assessment strategies for artist in residency programs.An accomplished artist, DNL is a poet who sings his words. Instead of using conventional poetic forms, he uses traditional song forms such as ballads, blues and the looser hybrid forms established in late 1960s folk and popular music. He is known also as an accomplished and innovative guitarist.He has performed in Ireland, England, Canada and the US and was invited to perform at the Official Showcase of the 2011 Folk Alliance International Conference. His work, described as "excellent" by both the LA Times and Britain's Folk Roots magazine, has aired on Late Night with David Letterman.
