I am responsible for working as part of the design team to create drawing packages, including P&IDs, PFDs, loop drawings, and panel layouts for oil and gas, water/wastewater, and manufacturing clients. Some of my tasks include selecting system components optimally suited for client projects and designs, creating instrumentation data sheets (cut sheets), and obtaining quotes from vendors for material cost estimates. In addition to providing status updates to the Project manager, I also coordinate system design and instrumentation selections with the Electrical Engineer, attend design review meetings with clients, and create control narratives to define how systems and processes should operate. Other tasks include creating cause-and-effect charts to define system alarms and shutdowns, programming PLC logic (taking into account functions required, safety, process optimization, and industry best practices), program HMIs to client standards while considering industry best practices, and (where mechanical design is involved) conducting pipe stress and hydraulic analyses.In addition to my role on the design team, I am also responsible for field tasks such as commissioning (i.e. system start-up), site acceptance tests, as-builts, and troubleshooting.
