Engaged community at Autumn Woods Apartments on food access issues; began designing and building an urban residential farm; served as a liaison between ECO and other organizations within the community that shared similar goals of community empowerment and increasing community health and wellness; developed curriculum for a Summer Youth Program designed to give residents farming and sustainable living skills.

Led afterschool & summer programs teaching high school students hands-on lessons in sustainable gardening techniques including: proper cultivating, harvesting and weeding techniques, crop families and crop rotation and integrated pest management; designed and maintained school vegetable garden; supervised students and volunteers.

Solved problems and offered solutions related to weed, insect and disease pressures on customers’ lawns, houseplants, trees, flowers and vegetable gardens; presented seminars on gardening related topics, such as seed starting methods, attracting beneficial insects, methods of organic gardening and how to compost.

Trained volunteers, reorganized operating procedures, expanded pantry offerings through partnerships with local organic farms, established a free cooking and nutrition class for low-income families in the neighborhood, built a community garden, wrote fundraising letters and brochures, distributed to local churches, developed and distributed a survey to determine levels of food scarcity and other hunger-related issues in Cayce Place Public Housing Project.
