I am also a firm believer in the concept of "GIVE BEFORE YOU GET " and a low, self-interest approach to relationships.A large part of my success in adding value to owners of privately held businesses can be attributed to these long term, trusted relationships. In many cases, we have put more money in their jeans either through proactive tax planning and/or initiating and concluding a liquidity event (taking some chips off the table) or sale of the entire company which has allowed them to pursue their non business interests which usually includes spending more time with their family, giving back to the community and traveling.
