As a student while attending BSC (now BSU), and now as an alumnus, I volunteer, providing teaching and lecture support to the atronomical observatory staff. Conduct public night observations sessions. Assist physics club students with amateur telescope making projects, observational technique, and undergraduate research.

Two of my three research projects were done for course credit. They involved Adrian Tinsley Program grant proposals, materials selection and ordering, and in one case, collaboration with external researchers. Work flow analysis resulted in the implementation of barcode encoded work order specification, which also provided quality control checkpoints. Barcoded unit shipping labels were produced only on successful test completion and configuration to work order. Failure labels were printed with error description / diagnostic codes redirecting units to rework.Regarding human communications skills. Applications programmer involved in a diversity of team projects including order entry, account inquiry, order processing, time and attendance, and incentive payroll. Fileserver administrator for source code and monthly payroll backup. Created a shipping application for the divert, sortation, storage, and pull of large orders for drop shipment when complete, which involved RF LAN networking of portable barcode scanning handheld workstations.

Improved existing barcode label decode assembly routines with inkspread and wand acceleration corrections. New barcode decode routines implemented. Developed "Terminal Application Level Language," (TALL), a ROM-resident compiler similar to BASIC with kernal extensions particular to barcode readers. TALL was a major component of the LOGMARS military field logistics proposal. Team effort to port TALL to a C implementation to allow terminal application compilation on PCs.

Trendlines, offered by Standard & Poor, allowed investors to access online information about their portfolio before the widespread use of Compuserve. Created assembly language routines for high resolution graphics and printing, floating point calculations, disk access schema, data encryption, and modem-based telecommunications.
