Lead AdvocateBuild 1000 Homes-Volunteer Jan 2013 - Feb 2015New York, New YorkThe "Build 1000 Homes Fund" is, at present, and "incubator" within MML building relationships with corporate sponsors and private organizations to raise awareness and funds. Thousands of families are still homeless due to the events of 10/29/2012 and have run out of options. The goal of our team is to "rebuild 1000 homes, one home at a time" lost during Hurricane Sandy. A recent question asked from a supporter was "what will you do after you build 1000 homes?" That's a GREAT question! The answer is simple: we intend on becoming a first responder to disasters with proper equipment, tools and training. This takes time, effort, and a tremendous amount of private and corporate support. My job is to enroll that support.Our team has received fabulous training from Yellow Boots in Staten Island over the past year. They are an amazing not-for-profit and our plan is to build ourselves in their mold and continue to work hand-in-hand to rebuild devastated areas.Update: after many homes we had worked on were flooded once again, after a simple bad rainstorm 6 weeks ago, our board decided that we were going about this the wrong way. After interviewing engineers, home-builders, and architects who built homes that survived Sandy, we discerned that FEMA has it right. For all red-carded homes in 1A affected areas: those homes need to be torn down, carted away, and 15' footings need to be installed. For a 1200 sq. foot home to be completely built and installed the price is $260,000.00. This is the way it needs to be done for these homes to survive the next storm and all natural disasters in flood zones.This was a volunteer/unpaid position.

At our height in the early to mid 1990's our studio employed 6 photographers, 5 salespeople, 2 delivery people, a framer, a lab-guy, an office staff of three and an amazing general manager who kept the whole ball rolling while I was out playing with my camera and two month old babies.
