The word NIKA means 'To Give' in the African language of Zulu. The name came about when David Perez took his kids to Kenya and Ethiopia in 2008. David Perez was the President and the Founder of the Coalition of Hope Foundation, Inc. (COH) a US-based 501(c)(3), not-for-profit charitable organization (formerly 2 Life 18 Foundation, Inc.) that provided global humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief support. Since 2005, the COH has supported a broad range of life-saving missions. In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, David and COH members organized 74 airlift missions into the storm-ravaged Gulf States providing 1,014,000 pounds of food, water and medical supplies. In 2010 the COH Foundation undertook another major mission to carry out disaster-relief operations in Haiti immediately following the nationwide devastation caused by an earthquake. In 2005, David Perez formed the 2 Life 18 Foundation, a rapid action group to coordinate relief efforts with NGO's, US Military, State Department, American Red Cross, faith-based groups and the private sector to rebuild lives and areas hit by natural disasters. In August of 2005, David, his family and friends jumped into action and coordinated 74 airlift missions to deliver over 507 tons of food, water and medical supplies. Valued in excess of $25 million, the mission brought tremendous relief to thousands of victims that had suffered losses in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. David and his team also rescued 126 people from the Gulf States to San Diego, CA.In 2010, he and his team led another major relief effort, as one of the first NGO’s in Haiti to respond to the October 2010 Cholera Epidemic at the request of the Ministry of Health. Additionally, David coordinated a massive emergency response team a few days after the January 12, 2010 earthquake where he procured and delivered over 2,700 tons of emergency aid by air, sea and land. David Perez is the recipient of the Southern Command Commanders Coin and Deputy Commanders Coin awarded for excellence for his service in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake Relief and Cholera Response initiative. David also wrote and submitted over $22 million dollars of grant proposals to keep hospitals and trauma centers functioning in order to save lives. In 1990 Cellular Solutions was acquired by TeleSciences CO Systems where it became a wholly owned subsidiary of TeleSciences, Inc. As President of the International Division, David Perez built the first operations support system for phone companies which was adopted all over the world. In addition to the operation systems, David also oversaw the build and deployment of the billing and fraud detection system. The company provided wireless operation support information systems for major cellular carriers and agents. Under David's leadership, the company partnered with DEC and Hewlett Packard. It became one of the very first DEC OSF software developers in the United States and later held nearly 80% market share in the country. In 1981 David founded Video & Cable Installation Inc., a company that sold business telephone systems, fax machines, personal computers and dumb terminals. As a Video and Cable TV service and installation company, the company soon became the largest distributor for Sony's Betamax in the United States. Straight out of High School, David successfully scaled the company to 35 full time employees and indepedant sales agents and making a huge impact in the digital network space even before commercial IT infrastructure had been fully developed. In the early eighties, David founded a string of highly successful companies that were game changers in their respective industry vertical. One of them was VCI Cellular Mobile Phone Corp., a privately owned cellphone operator. David became a pioneer in reselling bundled discounted air time and mobile phone service for $99 a monthly subscription, at a time when mobile phone usage was only affordable by the highly wealthy. Under David's leadership, the company became the first authorized privately owned reseller in the state of California approved by the PUC to resell bundled discounted air time and service. During this period, the company became the first cellular phone installation agent for Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems in southern New Jersey and later in 1986, switched to MetroPhone (now called Comcast).David steered the company to become one of the top 3 Master Agents for 7 year straight and opened a branch in Philadelphia and Redondo Beach in California in 1985. He managed a team of over 25 employees and 140 agents providing turnkey customer service that included sales, installation, service and billing. The company went from making a few thousand thousand dollars a day to generating over $2 million in monthly revenues. He later sold the subscriber base to LA Cellular.
