This enabling technology uses a substrate material (from the “valve” metal group of titanium, magnesium, aluminium and their alloys) and oxidises the outer surface to form a ceramic of the underlying substrate material. This is not a coating, but an Atomically Bonded Ceramic (ABC) layer.
