These systems include Nagios, Groundwork, Solarwinds, Netcool Omnibus, Splunk, SCOM, Cactii, Ganglia, Tibco Hawk, Managed Objects, Tidal Software, ITRS/Geneoss and others.• Learned and supported a diverse set of legacy monitoring tools across a global support environment consisting of over 6000 servers. Monitoring systems included Nagios/Groundwork, MOM, SCOM, NetIQ Managed Objects, Splunk, Omnibus, Ganglia and Geneos ITRS. • Implemented numerous improvements to existing monitoring environment including new custom developed plugins for Nagios, implementation of scripts for distribution of changes to monitoring across multiple disparate environments globally, and implementation of new global infrastructure for self service Geneos ITRS monitoring environment for various business groups within Capital Markets. • Mentored and trained new junior members of the team to provide support and development in the monitoring environment.• Developed and documented policies and procedures for global system monitoring using various tools including scripting in shell, perl, and other unix tools and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.• Evaluated new monitoring tools including doing proof of concept projects using the new tools. This included troubleshooting and break/fix for remote customers’ RMDS and SMDS market data distribution platforms. • Designed tools and test procedures to analyze latency issues within the RMDS environment and documented procedures to institute latency monitoring. • Analyzed and correlated the results of latency testing with collected system and network statistics and wrote a technical brief documenting the results and recommendations for reducing latency with the RMDS architecture for the client. • Implemented Splunk based monitoring system for a client’s FIX based Order Routing System.• Designed and implemented network for new RMDS backbone.• Specified and implemented new network monitoring solution for the NOC (Intermapper).• UNIX/Linux system administration for remote client’s RMDS and SMDS hosts including shell scripting for process start/stops, monitoring, and other administrative tasks.• Network administration, monitoring and reporting for West Highland’s NY network and one of the clients RMDS backbone network.

Provided active daily remote support for a NYSE client’s hosted wombat environment including implementation and testing/troubleshooting. Network backbone in all environments was based on Voltaire Infiniband 10Gig switches, transport was WMW, utilizing multicast over Infiniband. Nagios was used as monitoring tool with custom nrpe plugin's. Feeds supported/implemented: Opra, TVITCH, UTDF/UQDF,NYSEOBAXDP, TDDS/BDBS, Hamweck Interest Rate, NASDAQLS, GIF, ICE, Superfeed • Implementation support included determination and implementation of regex splits at both the feed and MTE level for performance reasons. • Implementation of process and interrupt binding to address performance issues.• Implementation and testing of new feeds. (Opra, etc.) • Implementation and testing of translation capabilities of MTE's and interfacing with Development to resolve issues. • Updating documentation. • Creating, responding to, and updating tickets in the issue tracking system (jira based wiki) • Creating properly documented change control request for implementation of new features, or bug fixes. • Creating and updating shell and perl scripts to aid administration of the environment. • Creation and modification of existing morning monitoring scripts and nagios probes to provide additional monitoring and notification capabilities.

• Designed and implemented a Benchmark and Functionality project plan for Bloomberg’s new RMDS feed handler.• Analyzed and correlated the benchmark results with collected system and network statistics.• Wrote 40 page technical brief documenting the test procedures, results and findings for the client.

• Planned and implemented conversion from a single flat network of over 600 devices based on 3com hubs and switches to switched/routed network based on Extreme Networks layer 3 switches and HP layer 2 switches with over 20 VLAN’s.• Migrated existing vendor private LAN connections to firewalled connections. I also implemented all new connections as firewalled connections using Cisco routers and Nokia/Checkpoint firewall appliances.• Discovered and documented entire network infrastructure including application infrastructures using Visio and various other tools. There was no documentation when I started.• Implemented a database based syslog server using MySQL and syslog-ng for all UNIX servers and switches. I also rewrote the batch processes based on the older connectivity to take advantage of the new TCP/IP based connection. Created shell based daemons to reprocess the files using nawk to provide the files to the users in the same format as they were received prior to the conversion.
