University of Oregon School of Law is Oregon’s premier legal college and its only public law school. Located in Eugene, and with programs in Portland, UO Law is one of only three public law schools in the country with three or more nationally ranked programs. Ranked as one of the top 25 schools in the country for students focused on public service, UO Law also is a leader in interdisciplinary, experiential learning that extends beyond traditional law school classes, intersecting with business, public policy and planning, conflict resolution, environmental studies, journalism and communications, international relations, and more.Oregon Law strives to provide students with a thorough understanding of the legal profession by offering research positions with the school's most distinguished professors. Students who participate in this program gain valuable experience in legal research and practical application to real and theoretical legal issues. As a Legal Research Assistant to Professor Rob Illig I conducted legal research on the monopoly power of the NCAA. This research involved the development of new and better methods for the NCAA to interact with athletes in a more positive manner. To develop theses methods I researched the interaction of business law with the psychological theory of identity. By analyzing this interaction it is possible to identify weaknesses in the current NCAA model while providing valuable insights as to how the model may be improved.
