But CAN is also showing its age. Applications have grown to the point where bandwidth on the bus is an issue.CAN is also showing its age over security. It has nothing beyond physical security: every device with access to a bus is trusted. But connected to the bus are usually the most sensitive parts of an embedded system: the actuators and sensors. Once a malefactor has access to these control CAN buses in a car it becomes possible to control or disrupt almost all aspects of the car, including braking, acceleration, steering and the engine. Thirty years ago the very idea of a car connected to the internet was ridiculous and an attack requiring physical access to the bus was regarded as a non-issue. Today the situation is very different: cars being connected to the internet is regarded as a norm.Canis Automotive Labs revolutionary new product, CAN-HG is the only product that meet these two crucial requirements: High speed communication and a Guarded bus.There is a third requirement that CAN HG meets – and this requirement is the most important: any new protocol must be completely compatible and interoperable with standard CAN.
