Created and led the Infrastructure & Security organization which works across all three of CZI's Initiatives (Education, Justice & Opportunity, and Science) in addition to enabling rapidly scaling operations. Led hardware and software engineering teams working to bring internet access to the next billion people around the world via the ground, air, and space.

• Appointed by President Obama into a newly created role responsible for all technology systems used by the White House with a goal of converging duplicative systems, driving sorely needed modernization, hiring leadership roles such as the first CISO, building partnerships with the Intelligence Community, and establishing policies and programs to create a unified technology strategy and budget across multiple civilian and military organizations. Held a TS/SCI clearance.• Replaced computers, desk phones, email accounts, mobile phones, and printers for thousands of staff while migrating them from one network to another. Technology upgrades included moving from 2011-era BlackBerries to modern iPhones, 1980-era analog desk phones to modern Cisco VoIP phones, deployment of Wi-Fi, deployment of instant messaging, use of multi-factor authentication, and wired network infrastructure modernization.• Drove improvements such as dramatic bandwidth increases and deployment of Wi-Fi aboard Air Force One and the creation of an executive support team such that Senior Staff had high-quality and consistent support wherever they were. Supported trips and delivered secure communication capabilities to high-threat locations such as China and in challenging locations such as backcountry Alaska.• Modernized contracting strategies and development practices across Amazon Web Services, Salesforce, SharePoint, and .NET platforms such that government staff made product decisions while contractors iteratively delivered software via Agile sprints. The development of Appointment Center allowed over one-million yearly visitors to the White House to submit their background check information securely instead of emailing spreadsheets or calling staff. Worked with counsel and security teams to develop a strategy for when cloud-based systems could be used based upon categories of data and encryption capabilities.• Evolved technology programs in support of continuity and emergency programs.

Conducted the first "discovery sprint" on behalf of USDS with the Department of Veterans Affairs before leaving Facebook and joining the White House full time.

• Led teams distributed across London and Menlo Park who built the core communication and information tools for the company outside of the Facebook product itself. Developed the initial Facebook for Work product strategy and split it into its own product team. Wrote code as needed to prove a point.• Led teams distributed across Menlo Park and Seattle who bought and managed facilities, HR, physical security, information security, recruiting, finance, and sales systems. Collaborated with senior leaders to build bridges between Engineering, Security and IT teams.• Engineering Lead for Bootcamp supporting all new engineers joining the company to help them ramp up both culturally and technically culminating in their picking their first team. Scaled Bootcamp across the London and Seattle engineering offices and worked closely with the HR and public policy teams to develop a strategy which resulted in opening a Vancouver engineering office and found two site leads to run it. Co-ran FLiP, an engineering leadership development program and mentored new managers both supporting those reporting to me and others across engineering.• Built Facebook’s first open source programs team which supported engineering teams using and releasing open source software. Major projects included HipHop for PHP, the Open Compute Project, and the Open Graph Protocol.

Focused on a combination of product management, engineering management, and evangelismfor APIs and social networking built around content publishing. Co-authored the OAuth 1.0specification. Spoke at numerous conferences including ApacheCon, Future of Web Apps,O’Reilly OSCON, Webstock, and Web 2.0 Expo.

Focused on how emerging internet identity technologies could add to existing products orcreate new businesses within a product incubation group. Was the youngest recipient of the Google and O’Reilly Open Source Award in 2007 for my work on OpenID and participated in creating the non-profit OpenID Foundation as a founding board member.
