As a Technology Specialist, my responsibility was to lead small data-centric projects and provide architectural and technical expertise to the development organization. As a Technology Specialist, my work included:• Leading the Data Management Competency Center (DMCC). The DMCC served as a community of developers interested in data-solutions. As lead, I was responsible for running monthly meetings, presenting content on emerging technologies, as well as leveraging the community to further the development of Server Insight.• Automated the creation of Global OCEO Client Revenue Planning Workbooks, eliminating weeks of error-prone manual data entry and validation, and reduced the production of over 400 Excel workbooks to a few hours. • My favorite part of my job: Mentoring 3 junior developers who were interested in advancing their competencies in SQL Server. • The evaluation and implementation of PAGE compression in our primary data warehouse. Using PAGE compression resulted in an almost 70% compression gain, and 50% improvement in index scan performance.

As a Data Architect within Global Technology Services, my primary responsibility was to work closely with program and technical leads to negotiate a common solution vision and lead efforts resulting in artifacts including physical and logical database models, ETL and data integration designs and operational requirements.As a Data Architect, my work included:• 4 successful next-gen projects as lead data architect.• Technical lead of the migration of our largest data warehouse from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008• The creation of product selection standards for Business Intelligence toolsets. • Providing assistance with unexpected SQL Server technical issues.

As the Database Development Manager for Global Client Intelligence, my responsibilities included the availability and performance of GCI database systems. Much of this work used historical performance data collected and stored in Server Insight (see below) to identify, correct and monitor:• Server and database configurations to insure they comply with best practices. • Issues skewing performance data and resulting in inefficient query plans with unmaintained indexes and statistics.Using Server Insight performance data, we saw a history of excessive writes and in some cases reads were causing unacceptable stalls across all GCI servers. The consensus decision was to eliminate the disk sub-system as a bottleneck and then re-assess memory. In a two-phased approach, Global Client Intelligence:• Migrated all of database storage to new disk IO controllers and solid-state drives. This reduced disk-read times in our primary data warehouse by 75% and overall by 66%. It also eliminated storage from the overall performance picture, and clarified the justification for increased server memory.• Increased server memory on their SQL servers from 64GB to 128GB to address complex queries requiring large sorts that were the primary cause of the stalls in tempdb,Completed two significant new Server Insight features:• The Perfmon Metric Collector (and changes to the Server Insight Metric Warehouse).• In-memory Analytics using Analysis Servers (Tabular) which consumed over 45GB of historical performance data into a 4.4GB Anaysis Services (Tabular) IMDB.

Designed and developed "Server Insight", a historical performance monitoring system for Microsoft SQL Server. Originally conceptualized and developed off-hours to meet an on-going need for a zero-footprint monitoring system; and to better understand where the Microsoft BI components might be appropriate for adoption within Global Technology Services. Server Insight has been fully operational for over a year and has been providing self-service performance intelligence repeatedly used to aid production issue diagnosis and resolution of complex performance problems and operational issues. .Server Insight components:• Historical Metric Warehouse (SQL Server 2012)• Metadata-Driven Metric Collection System (SQL 2012 Integration Services) • Server Health Reports (SSRS 2012 Hosted In SharePoint 2013)• In-Memory Analytics Database (SQL 2012 Analysis Services - Tabular)• Performance Dashboards (Excel 2013, Power View and Power Pivot)Developed With Visual Studio, Team Foundation Services And Excel 2013
