About David Rodríguez Martínez

David Rodríguez is a postdoc at EPFL's Advanced Quantum Architecture (AQUA) Lab where he currently conducts research at the intersection of robotics, quantum imaging, and space. His main line of research revolves around the study of innovative quantum-driven autonomous navigation pipelines and robotic mobility solutions based on the use of single-photon cameras. Our goal is to enable mobile robotic systems to more efficiently, reliably, and rapidly characterize unstructured, dynamic, and visually degraded environments with minimal human intervention. In July 2022, he founded HERMES, an international working group formed by researchers and scientists working on heterogeneous multirobot cooperation for exploration and science in extreme environments, with workshops hosted at ICRA 2023 and ICRA 2024. He currently teaches and directs the Spacecraft Design (EE584) and Concurrent Engineering for Space Missions (ENG411) master's level courses at EPFL. He has previously worked on lunar robotic prospecting technologies, active deorbiting of defunct satellites, and fast off-road mobility approaches. He founded and directed EPFL Space Center's Lunar Hub and formerly held several positions as a researcher for the Automation & Robotics Section of the European Space Agency and as a visiting scientist for the Institute of System Dynamics & Control of the German Aerospace Center. He holds a Bachelor & Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carlos III University of Madrid, a Master’s Degree in Space Studies from the International Space University, and a PhD in Robotics from Tohoku University.

Listed skills include Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Autocad, Teamwork, and 39 others.
