Our group utilizes mouse models of autoimmunity to study disease. We are utilizing a number of genetic models of autoimmunity to dissect the pathways important in preventing autoimmunity. In particular, we have focused on mice harboring mutations in the Autoimmune Regulator (Aire) gene. Mutations in this gene result in Autoimmune Polyendocrinopathy Syndrome Type 1 (APS1), a devastating autoimmunity syndrome in which patients develop multi-organ autoimmunity particularly affecting the endocrine organs. Undergraduate Research Position: studied novel vaccine vehicles using PRINT (Particle Replication in non wetting Templates).
