About David Sala Cano

Biomedical researcher and muscle biologist with more than 12 years of experience in performing research focused on the study of skeletal muscle biology and physiology, with a special interest in the regulation of muscle mass, tissue regeneration, and pathological skeletal muscle loss. Muscle wasting is a debilitating condition associated with aging and several human diseases (such as cancer, diabetes or muscle dystrophies) that impairs patients’ quality of life and increases mortality risk. There is no cure available to date, and the ultimate goal of my research has been to improve our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying this condition and translate these discoveries into novel therapeutic approaches that improve the quality of life of aged and diseased individuals.
