It was a freaky feeling...the first time.For more than 20 years as a TV News Reporter I was used to standing on one side side of the yellow tape-the tape separating Firefighters and cops from the media and the public. And now, for the first time, I'm stepping on the other side.As a Public Information Officer for Clark County Fire District 6 I get to work with the men and women who run into places where others are running from. We're a small, primarily suburban district with strong community support and a serious dedication to that community. The PIO responsibility is only half of my job. As Public Education Coordinator I also have the pleasure of teaching fire safety and prevention to the children and adults living within our District. We don't just do Fire Prevention Week, rather we do Fire Prevention Month. In 31 days we will see nearly 1,400 kindergartners and first graders--spreading the message of safety and fire prevention. I like to bring video production skills learned from over 25 years of television and radio experience, and am seriously loving being our "one-man-band" of shooting, writing, voicing and editing videos that help train firefighters as well as educate and entertain our public.It may have been an odd sensation the first time I crossed the tape. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.
