Open English is an online school created to reinvent the English-language-learning experience. The company serves a large and rapidly growing global market, initially targeting Spanish and Portuguese speakers in the Americas. Through live instruction with native English speaking teachers and multimedia learning materials, all provided over the Internet. Open English empowers students on their customized path to English fluency in a 12-month time period.As a live instructor I was responsible for preparing 45 minute lessons for true beginner-intermediate levels. I used in-class platform tools to provide a more visual and interactive classroom experience, as well as managing student participation, encouraging those who need it, and correcting those who would benefit from it. This position requires excellent planning and time management outside and in class, and attention to detail, to give the students a solid and consistent experience. People skills are also imperative, as there are many types of learners and personalities.

I transitioned and started an individual effort to continue in the English Consulting market. I continued working with business contacts, offering english classes, technical and business translations between english and Portuguese, and consulting. The company is registered under the Brazilian Federal program called MEI (Micro Entrepreneur). I faced many challenges during the setup phase, to regulate everything with governments, of which all levels have complex bureaucracy. Prospecting, maintaining and organizing clients was also a challenge that allowed me to grow in self management, as well as company financial standards in Brazil. Successes included a 50% increase in revenue within the first 3 months, a self-created attendance and billing setup, a well received adaptive methodology for individual classes, and optimal teacher-student feedback.

An M&A firm, focused on the crowded and fragmented Education sector in Brazil. It seeks to unify and consolidate universities, private schools and language schools, maximizing resources and using cross-selling to increasing margins while reducing costs through economies of scale. I was responsible for market analysis and research, and developed graphics and tables used in company materials and presentations. I also worked in company prospection and analysis, searching for solid schools, with a successful financial model, then contacting those target companies with the initial proposal and presentation. I gained valuable experience in client management, proposal procedures, M&A strategy while using my experience in education in Brazil. I also was able to increase my level of professional Portuguese to a new higher level and capability.

I later took on a hybrid role, as both teacher and commercial coordinator. Added responsibilities included creating and managing methodologies and materials used in teaching, managing class schedules and teacher assignments, holding teacher meetings and trainings, and commercial client management.These new responsibilities greatly used my knowledge and expertise in english, and at the same time increased my experience and abilities in Portuguese, while serving both staff and clients. There were many challenges as this market has a high employee turnover rate, which made it very arduous to innovate and implement newer and more efficient technology and ideals within the company. The company accountant also left unexpectedly and the responsibility fell to me to keep things going for 2 months while we looked for a new hire. I learned more than I ever needed to about the overly complicated financial and tax systems in place in Brazil.

The company is an area franchise of language schools, in a market with an ever growing demand for english. They have a two pointed business plan that focuses on in-company classes and services at local businesses and institutions, as well as the traditional brick and mortar language school with larger classes. I started as an English teacher, both in-school and in-company. This required a great deal of weekly and semester-long planning, using various english learning resources. Traditionally, this relies on the use of books, but I resorted to more technology in the classroom through videos, articles, and music to involve the interests of the students, expanding their learning well beyond grammar books.

Audio/Visual Coordinator for a 3000+ member congregation. Set up and coordinated all sound and visual aspects within the church including planning, purchasing, volunteers, live HD broadcasting, and digital media storage and optimization. Improved a pre-existing multi room recording setup throughout the campus to record full audio and video from events, presentations and Worship services. Updated or maintained all faulty or aging equipment to bring everything to a more efficient and volunteer friendly experience.

I took out a loan to start a DJ services company with my partner. After buying all of the necessary audio and lighting equipment, it only took us 3 months to pay off the initial loan. With a focus on Greek life, university events, and weddings, we used our abilities and networking to build up to a two system company. After about 1 year in the market we had a full schedule every weekend of 6 events in the peak times of the year. We later split our responsibilities and I stayed exclusively with weddings, using my demeanor and professional attitude with overly nervous brides. I implemented an application process, to deal with the demand and assess the best opportunities. I created all the necessary contracts and legal documents and financial operations.

A regional restaurant and catering company with multiple locations. I prepared deli food and lunch kits, often hundreds at a time, delivered the food in a truck, and transported the food to its final destination at the client. This required high attention to detail, organization, and great customer relation skills. A good memory and professionalism are also paramount as we are the only direct contact that the clients have with the company. Prospecting and maintaining clients was my greatest joy, as I could use my relational skills in a consistent and genuine manner, in a relatively easy market, as everyone welcomes those who are bringing their food!

SOS seeks to aid people and transform neighborhoods by utilizing volunteers to renovate the homes of economically disadvantaged homeowners in Memphis, TN. This is done through home repair camps for Jr. and Sr. High youth, college students, and adults. As a team leader, one is in charge of the planning and execution of a single home, including roof replacement, kitchen and bath work and drywalling. The team leader must train, lead and supervise teams of 12-15 in how to carry out the renovations as well as ministry activities.

A university performing group consisting of two audio engineers, a full band, 9 singers performing top 40’s music from all decades. The band is used as a recruiting tool for the Music school at the university and provides full scholarships for its members.As Audio Engineer, I was responsible for the almost daily setup and and operation of a full tour setup of live sound and recording equipment. Acting as a FOH and monitor engineer, I tuned a 50 input system in various types of venues, setup Yamaha m7cl, RF for InEars and Microphones, microphones and positions, ran a live ProTools recording setup, mixed 15 in ear mixes, side fills and drum sub.

I worked at the world-class theme park as part of a summer job program. I was trained in basic safety, health, and customer satisfaction procedures. I was posted at the "Men in Black" ride and stayed the entire time at that location in the park. I took joy in making the ride more of an experience, especially for kids and families. Often I would encourage other employees to join me in "acting" opportunities, which can really bring a pick-me-up when there are long lines or mechanical issues. To me this job was all about the guests, and whatever I could do to make their good experience better, or even save a failing family vacation with a small act on my part.
