Performed geotechnical field investigations to determine engineering properties of soils and construction materials per ASTM/AASHTO procedures and specifications. Engineering field duties included site layout, and in-situ subsurface evaluations with hand auger or drill rig such as Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP), Piezocone Penetrometer (CPTu), electrical resistivity and crosshole seismic testing (CST). Lab duties included standard soil property tests such as Atterburg limits, particle size analysis, triaxial shear tests and Proctors. Solved engineering problems using specific software applications related to deep foundation design and slope stability. Applied conclusions and recommendations in written reports for Civil, Environmental, Structural and Transportation Engineers as well as General Contractors. Also worked in Mexico directing a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians to determine foundation and settlement issues for a religious temple. This project required an understanding of deep foundation applications specific to Mexico City and the region.

Managed construction projects per municipal codes and engineering specifications. Developed scopes and identified potential constructability issues/conflicts and alternative methods. Followed critical path method (CPM) to maintain construction schedules and adhered to permitting requirements in compliance with Contractors, inspectors, and regional authority. Also communicated with utility contractors in anticipation of conflicts during construction. Employed construction methods that would minimize impact to the environment, specifically with respect to groundwater, drainage projects, and during waterfront operations. Also identified public safety issues with respect to maintenance of traffic (MOT).

Solved engineering problems using CAD applications related to geometric design and structural calculations. Applied conclusions, recommendations, and design variations in written reports and plans sheets. Resolved and documented engineering design conflicts in the field with FDOT and municipal contractors, inspectors and construction project managers. Met with elected officials and stakeholders to discuss project issues, approaches and public awareness efforts over project duration. Mentored and managed junior engineers by providing professional direction as well as assistance with EIT and PE exam preparation.

Conducted forums and meetings between constituents and Congressman Peterson's office: Planned and executed Veterans Affairs forum for Congressman Peterson and dignitaries for more than 300 attendees to discuss veterans' issues and concerns.Prepared final internship research paper on “The Effect of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on Florida's Second Congressional District": For the report I compared two industries with opposing views toward NAFTA as it had been proposed. Bay County officials supported the agreement due to the competitive advantage their deep-water port provided for international trade. The Florida Department of Agriculture opposed the agreement as it would be placed at a competitive disadvantage compared to the cheaper agriculture in Mexico. Before pursuing the potential specific regional impact, I conducted policy and legal research through the Congressional Research Service.
