I have been on the affiliate faculty at the University of Washington since completing my PhD in 1997. My primary affiliation is with the Department of Epidemiology (1997- Present). At different times, I have also had affiliations with the Department of Global Health (2009-2023) and the Masters of Health Informatics and Health Information Management (2024 - Present). In this capacity, I have taught multiple courses, prepared and delivered guest lectures, advised and mentored students, served on dissertation and thesis committees, and served as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council.

I am a Translational Advisor at the University of Washington Institute Protein Design. In this capacity, I work with students, fellows, faculty members, and IPD leadership to identify and advance translational opportunities related to cutting-edge de novo protein design and AI methods.

I served as the Head of Business Development for several months on a consulting basis at Presage Biosciences. In this capacity, I sat on the senior leadership team, helped the company with their current round of financing, and worked to establish new partnerships with pharma, biotech, and CROs. I reported directly to the CEO.

I worked with the CEO of La Jolla Pharma Co. and his leadership team to prepare for the launch and commercialization of a new drug for the hospital-based treatment of a serious infectious disease. In doing so, my work involved business development, exploring strategic partnerships, government relations, and interaction with medical societies and the World Health Organization. My consulting engagement with the company ended when the CEO transitioned out of the company.

In my capacity as Vice President & Head of PPD Consulting, I was responsible for leading the PPD Consulting team. Our team included experts focused on the areas of drug development, regulatory strategy, protocol optimization, and clinical information science. During my tenure, I advanced PPD's business goals and proactively addressed the changing strategy and regulatory environment for product development programs. I rejoined PPD in 2018 having previously been with the company from 2000 to 2005. My leadership role was eliminated as part of a corporate restructuring in August 2019.

I designed and taught three courses in the MBA and Executive MBA programs. These courses focused on strategy, global health, and innovative finance. I served as a mentor and supervisor to multiple students.

I led multiple drug development programs in infectious disease, maternal health, and pediatrics. I had overall responsibility for the entirety of the drug development program, including regulatory strategy, clinical development, preclinical development, CMC, finance, and personnel. I was the point person for our engagement with the US FDA. I was directly responsible for raising more than $50M in funding, including $28M in venture capital financing for the development of the drug tribendimidine. I also served as a member of the PATH leadership team.

As Director, I served as a member of the Foundation Leadership Team and led the Grantee and Partner Engagement Team to further the foundation’s commitments to have quality interactions, clear and consistent communication, and ongoing feedback with grantees and partners across the Foundation's program areas.

In this role, I provided leadership at the nexus of science and business for the Global Health program at the Gates Foundation. I was directly involved with the malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and neglected tropical disease programs. In addition, I led multiple strategic initiatives (e.g., our work around a comprehensive risk-adjusted portfolio) and was instrumental in establishing and funding the $108M Global Health Investment Fund (GHIF).

In this role, I provided leadership at the nexus of science and business for the Global Health program at the Gates Foundation. I was directly involved with the malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and neglected tropical disease programs. I was a key professional advisor to the Director of the Global Health Program (Dr. Gina Rabinovich).

As a member of the senior management team at BioMedical Systems, I led a team of business development professionals responsible for our biopharmaceutical, device, and CRO customers in the western half of North America, Japan, and Asia. I specifically interacted directly with key customers, expanded our business in Japan, and further professionalized our business development team and processes.

In this role I reported to the SVP of Business Development and was responsible for building and managing a team of five (5) business development professionals overseeing a diverse portfolio of biotech and pharma clients; for producing new business authorizations each year from a client portfolio that included start-up, small, and mid-sized private and publicly-traded biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies; for liaising with companies in Japan and South Korea; and for managing all aspects of relationships (operational and financial) with new and existing clients of PRA. In addition, I had responsibilities as a corporate officer of PRA International, a publicly-traded company (PRAI) and for developing and participating in corporate initiatives as directed by the Senior Vice President, Executive Vice President, and/or CEO of PRA International.

I joined Ockham Ventures with other executives from PPD. At Ockham I was responsible for developing our corporate strategy, leading our interactions with VC firms around the US, and signing new deals that would produce revenue for Ockham through our CRO business. I was also responsible for identifying and vetting opportunities for asset acquisition and partnership with biotech and small pharma companies.

I was promoted to Executive Director for Business Development with responsibilities for managing a high-performing business development team focused on working with biotech and small pharma companies primarily based in the western half of North America.

In my capacity as Business Development Director, I was a member of a high-performance team based on the West Coast of North America. I was personally responsible for closing deals that allowed us to meet our authorization and revenue targets and was recognized as a member of the President's Club for multiple years during my tenure.

I conceived of, established, and ran the Seattle office for a growing CRO based in Michigan during my tenure as Director of Seattle Operations for STATPROBE.

I reported to the CEO and was responsible for ensuring that clinical operations at our growing, high-volume Phase I clinical pharmacology unit were conducted in a safe, scientifically robust, GCP, and FDA-compliant manner. I was involved with all aspects of our clinical operations and also had responsibility for interacting with pharmaceutical and biotech sponsors to ensure that we had a robust pipeline of studies.

In my capacity as an Epidemiologist and Director of Business Development at SERC, I was responsible for writing clinical development protocols, interacting with DSMBs, supervising the production of statistical analyses from clinical studies, and ensuring a robust pipeline of future business opportunities for SERC.
