Flags of Valor, the largest producer of wooden American flags in the United States, trains veterans in the crafts of woodworking to produce wooden flags and a growing array of related products.Flags are handmade by its team of American combat veterans who served honorably overseas fighting wars as far back as the Vietnam War, and as current as the recent uprisings in Iraq and Syria. Brian Steorts is a founder of Flags for Valor, and he served in the 82nd Airborne unit of the U.S. Army. He got injured on his 9th deployment. During rehab, he needed an outlet for his depression. He found that outlet in making flags.“We believe there is no better way to continue honoring a heritage of service than by making our nation’s family crest: the American flag. Our products aren’t just wooden flags, but living memorials of service,” says the group spokesperson. “They capture the shared values that fuel the American spirit.” Flags of Valor has employed more than 70 veterans, raised over $1.25 million for veteran charities, and produced in excess of 100,000 hours of veteran powered American manufacturing labor.

● Responsible for expanding outreach and awareness of GrouperEye through various mediums: including all types of new media, traditional advertising, campus recruiting, press release, and more. ● Manage a team of 5+ interns in various outreach, press, and membership related tasks.

● Developed a worldwide database of Chief of Parties and investigated their background information for USAID projects. ● Assisted in recruiting and finding new Chief of Parties for CARANA USAID proposals. ● Gained understanding of U.S. foreign policy and international development through participation in meetings and reviewing reports.

● Led a Steering Committee of 10 leadership students and delegated various responsibilities for a four-year 120 student certificate program.● Streamlined various once ineffective programs and doubled budget allotment up to $24,000.● Worked alongside Professor/Director of Program through curriculum development, student management, and long term planning.

● Instrumental in constructing DCPS’s Tutor-Mentor Program, largely responsible for increase of 21 tutors to over 300+. ● Created and managed online community for all of tutors in program, managed logistics of four different high school schools programs. ● Presented program to various Washington D.C. firms, and assisted in various types of outreach.

● Responsible for independent projects ranging from creating the vision and mission statement of the department to rewriting various SOPs. ● Researched and developed City’s first film policy, cross training program, lobby policy, and other procedures. ● Introduced new marketing/communications strategy and established new method of employee efficiency tracking.

● Handled efforts to plan, advertise, and organize Senator Kennedy’s endorsements of Obama at American University. ● Organized, fundraised, and lead thirty-one supporters from Washington D.C. to Iowa for Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.● Presented in front of hundreds of students at bi-weekly meetings addressing policy issues and upcoming events. ● Worked with state and regional directors on other canvassing trips, events, and fundraisers (South Carolina and New Hampshire trips, etc.)

● Researched legislation, prepared reports/ memorandums, and problem solved with staff about political operations. ● Worked alongside press secretary in facilitating communication between press and the office. ● Given leadership on graphics and printing tasks, as well as delivering press releases and documents throughout Capital complex.

● Responded to public letters, phone calls, and e-mails concerning issues related to the Army and our office. ● Created a new system in which public inquiries were logged and organized: eventually bringing our response rate from 40% to 100%. ● Escorted high officials and celebrities around the Pentagon (including: Miss USA, foreign Military Officers, businessmen and women, etc). ● Set up and managed tours, officer panel sessions, and other events for youth programs like NYLC, Senate Youth Program, JSA, and Close-Up. ● Participated in various brainstorming sessions and added insightful ideas on many projects (responsible for Army Youth Merit Badge idea). ● Led intern supporting the Veteran Service Organization Conference (Army leaders present to veteran organizations in the Pentagon).

● Founding member, and host/ co-host of Baseline (a show focused on teenage stories in Naperville).● Creator and Host of The Pulse (a show about local/ state/ federal political issues). ● Set up and coordinated interviews with expert guests and politicians on Baseline & The Pulse.● Student Board Member on NCTV’s Board of Directors [2005-2006]. ● Worked with people of all backgrounds and ages in order to produce quality results on time.
