Senior Media Officer (Specialising In Highways And Transport)
My work had two purposes:Firstly, I created content to inform, explain and highlight the work West Sussex County Council did for its residents.Second, as part of a small, busy team that dealt with (on average) 175 requests from the media every month, I advised and lead on reputational risk issues. Highways and Transport was my speciality. Achievements:• Delivered a 17-week 'Winter Weather' campaign in 2014/15, syndicated in the local media, that received coverage in the Daily Mail, The Sun, and BBC South Today.• Produced the highest-viewed YouTube video in two years for West Sussex County Council, promoting cycle safety on the Northgate roundabout in Chichester.• Boosted car sharing in West Sussex by 8% in October 2015, following a targeted media campaign.

I was promoted to this role in August 2008 after serving as a senior and junior reporter for four years. Responsibilities included reporting stories for both newspaper and website, updating the website daily, managing the newsdesk and assigning stories to reporters. I planned and co-ordinated supplements and campaigns for the paper, updated and broadcasted news on Twitter and Facebook, recorded audio interviews, organised photographers’ diaries and trained students on work experience placements. I wrote over 350 front page leads during the course of my print journalism career, along with more than 5,000 lead stories.
