I teach graduate and undergraduate courses in literacy education and classroom assessment. I co-developed and am co-leading a MEd program focused on Curriculum and Assessment. Our program focuses on developing an integrated understanding of how curriculum theory and assessment theory can inform one another. I am currently a Co-Editor-in-Chief of Assessing Writing, the leading international journal in the field of writing assessment. My current program of research focuses on developing Technology Based Assessment for Learning Platforms to support the teaching and learning of workplace English communication skills at both secondary and post-secondary levels. More broadly, my research focuses on the social consequences of assessment design and use.

Post Doctoral FellowUniversity Of Alberta May 2007 - Dec 2008As a post doctoral fellow, I co-chaired the University of Alberta's Writing Task Force. This task force developed sweeping recommendations for improving writing instruction and supports at the University of Alberta. The University has implemented a number of the task force's recommendations including the development of a Centre for Writers, the implementation of a WAC program, and the redesign of first-year writing courses. My post doc research examined the efficacy of WRS 101 a newly developed writing course at the U of A.
