"Are you, like, a crazy person?" "I'm quite sure they will say so" ~ V for VendettaWhen I left a lucrative position as a high-producing attorney at one of Los Angeles' winningest litigation firms, not everyone understood. But I wanted to build buildings. And so, I did. My first projects were delivered on-time and under budget, and profits, awards and accolades followed. I might've been content to just repeat this outcome, but something was not quite right. Was it me, or was there something rather wrong with the development process? From land acquisition to entitlements, design to construction, contracts, budgets, materials, marketing - it was all so very old school. Like, really, really old. Like "ye olde" old. I wanted to bring it forward. All of it. And although one might rightly observe that this was an overly broad aspiration - off I went.Today, through the companies I’ve built, and with my partners and investors (thank you all), I’ve been able to bring three big brands of “better” to the development process: financial innovation, operational excellence and technology, technology, technology. At market, these improvements have created tangible opportunities and reduced risks for hundreds of development projects and stakeholders the world over.In measuring my personal success, it's an easy calculus: First, I know that I have delivered wins and profits, to clients and colleagues, in boardrooms, courtrooms and construction trailers alike. Second, the people who work with me know that I respect the hell out of them, and the work they do, at every level of my organizations. So far, then, it seems I've made things a little better than when I found them. Thanks for reading about me,David
