After my time as a student research assistant ended, the Johnson Center decided to offer me a part time position as one of the administrative assistants. I took the position happily. I scanned, copied, faxed, filed, and documented important papers or checks. Also answered and transferred calls, booked rooms, and directed visitors with strong interpersonal skills. I worked closely with the rest of the administration team, but was also willing to help out any Johnson Center employee with any small projects they may have need assistance with. I learned many things about working in a professional business at the Johnson Center.

As a student research assistant I worked on a summer project at the Johnson Center to help the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation figure out on how they want to spread out their grants. I first conducted a lot of research, gathered a lot of information, and accurately recorded my findings in Excel about many different non-profit organizations on a 501c3 list. The organizations were either from Southeast Michigan or Western New York, the areas that the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation does its work. More specifically, youth programming information from these non-profits needed to be collected. Through emails and mostly phone surveys that lasted between 15-60 minutes, I talked with presidents, executive directors, and program directors to acquire the needed information. While on the phone, I would be leading these people through a Qualtrics survey and record the data given relating to program dates, demographics served, activities, and main goals or missions. Also including detailed notes of unique aspects in the programs or organization. I worked independently on a regular basis, being trusted to deliver new information or provide input on current projects and I did often in weekly meetings. In these meetings I also learned more about local non-profits and helped brainstorm more ideas relating to the project. At the end of the summer I had completed the most interviews out of all interns hired over the summer.
