After more than 30 years as a professional sports journalist, I am now applying my skills, knowledge and experience to a new area, as a sports and betting senior reporter at the legal news website Law360. Over the years I have worked for national publications such as Sporting News, AOL FanHouse and The National Sports Daily, written columns for daily newspapers in San Francisco and Baltimore, and contributed to Andscape (formerly The Undefeated), Washington City Paper, the NAACP's The Crisis and several other publications. My career has taken me to the Olympic Games, the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, the NBA Finals and the playoffs in every major professional and college sport. My awards have included national, state and regional recognition for daily reporting, column writing, investigative reporting and enterprise writing, in breaking news as well as sports ... and one for lifetime achievement.My first solo authored non-fiction book, It Was Always a Choice: Passing the Baton of Athlete Activism, was recognized by Library Journal as one of the 10 best arts & humanities books of 2022. Two autobiographies I have co-authored - Silent Gesture, with Olympic gold medalist Tommie Smith, and Four Generations of Color, with pioneering sports agent and baseball coach Dr. Miles McAfee - are available through all national booksellers and their publishers, Temple University Press and AuthorHouse, respectively.
