Primus originally entered the Australian telecommunications market in 1996 by acquiring Australia's fourth largest telecommunications service provider, Axicorp. Primus Telecom was one of the first carriers to be granted a telecommunications licence in 1997. Prior to this Australia's telecommunications industry was operated as a duopoly between the former Australian Government owned Telecom Australia, later re-branded Telstra and Optus, before the market was opened to full competition in July 1997.I joined Primus in December 1997 where my role was to develop a suite of applications to support the day to day operations of the Network Management Centre. A PoP Site Manager, written in Visual Basic on a SQL Server backend, provided monitoring of PoP site health across the 6 states and 2 mainland territories on a large animated map of Australia hosted on a centrally positioned jumbo monitor in the NMC. Real-time alerting and management of these sites was crucial for maintaining service into local telephone networks.An International Call Routing Manager, written in Visual Basic on a SQL Server backend taking price feeds from Excel and MS Access, was key for providing lowest cost call routing analysis across international telephone exchanges. Through consuming daily updated pricing spreadsheets the Call Routing Manager was able to provided the most cost efficient routing of calls from Australia to all serviced destinations allowing the NMC manager make informed routing decisions to maximize margin.

OPSIS Practice Management Solutions, Ltd. develops software solutions for the legal profession. Its products include Practice Management System, an integrated law practice management system; Solicitor Case Manager, designed to help manage case loads and ensure less time is spent processing each case whilst maintaining the highest standards of client care.I joined OPSIS straight from college and as part of a team of 3 developers that developed the initial product offering that is now a successful and widely used Practice and Case Management solution. Given the size of the development team I was exposed to all stages of the SDLC from design to implementation to test and finally installation on client sites. It was a steep and fast learning curve but one that stood to me as I quickly developed a rounded skillset as a developer who could design and write code while also deal with clients in a confidence and professional manner.
