Updated and oversaw the department's online GIS Registry of Contaminated Sites database for both government and public use. Recorded field data using GPS equipment wherever adequate site maps were not available. Edited and merged linked data between the department's Access database structure and the GIS network. Presented staff with GIS Registry development updates at monthly departmental meetings.

Collected and compiled hydrographic, topographic, and bathymetric data as part of the conversion process of paper nautical charts into digital form for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA, at that time known as the National Imagery and Mapping Agency or NIMA). Edited and analyzed collected data to meet in accordance with NIMA's strict cartographic standards. Selected from the Digital Nautical Chart sector of ten employees to manage a data library consisting of 73 digital nautical charts covering the Mediterranean region. This conversion process required updating attribute information and operating the NGA's VPF Validator software to validate all data within the library in order to meet weekly federal deadlines. Demonstrated this conversion process to visiting guests and to high school students during National GIS Awareness Week.

Increased the accessibility and efficiency of the enforcement database through the reorganization of all records. Gathered land use statistics using GIS network for neighborhood redevelopment projects. Supervised the departmental implementation of U.S. EPA Region 5 computer cost assessment model as part of the US EPA's beta-testing of model in ten major cities in the Midwest. The implementation process involved meeting with members of a private environmental engineering firm, US EPA representatives, and other staff within the city government to test and modify repeatedly the computer model in order to obtain accurate estimates of cleanup costs of various illegal dump sites within Chicago. Numerous visits to illegal dump sites to measure the types and amount of debris were necessary in acquiring accurate figures for the computer model.
