Contracting and Remote Work

Worked closely with CEOs, lead developer, external developers, business, and sales. Setup, implemented, and introduced company-wide usage of Jira and Confluence; as well as agile, scrum-based methodologies to initiate sprint-based release cycles. Migrated code repository from a tangled web of branches to a trunk-based workflow with pipeline triggers and custom deployment scripts written in POSIX-compliant shell scripts. Migrated AWS infrastructure to distributed microservices on EC2 instances and S3 buckets for assets. Managed AWS resources including IAM and users, EC2 instances and VPC networking, RDS MySQL databases, CloudWatch and CloudTrail logging and dashboards. Built custom docker-compose files with custom docker images and resources that included dynamic database creation/loading/exporting, custom bash environments, and docker services to reflect the AWS setup to late be used for deployment using ECR/ECS in AWS. Introduced and enforced peer code-review process, handled the merging of code branches into master as well as the entire release process and versioning of software. Setup (somewhat) automated deployments, and wrote extensive documentation for the entire process. Worked with other tech and non-tech roles to create the first QA and UAT development cycles for release. Stabilized application, reducing down-time and majorly eliminating broken releases and development processes.

Worked remotely with a distributed team to develop an API and integrations with 3rd party lenders. Reported directly to CTO. Communicated and worked directly with outside companies to develop solutions for integration with their products. APIs were written in React with a legacy PHP system which was being phased out for a Node.js backend. The company itself services small to medium sized businesses and connects and approves them to receive loans from partnered banks and loan companies based on the health of the company and their revenue amounts, rather than credit scores of the business owners.

Worked with an existing remote team located in Romania to help build out Saas platform for behavioral health services, specifically supporting individuals suffering from Opioid Use Disorder. One goal in this role has been to transfer ownership of the entire application and code to our US development team and bring development in-house from the external team. Role included agile planning, providing advice and guidance, and monitoring emerging trends. Work included separation of existing environment in AWS to separate AWS Organization Accounts for regulatory and compliance requirements. Participated in daily scrum meetings, sprint planning, and fielded other developers' requests for resources. Setup new developer and company IAM users, created new security groups and segmented AWS IAM policies, roles, and groups. Participated in other meetings to provide guidance and instruction in development.

Took ownership of existing iOS, Android, and Web applications from external partners. Directed processes of building out new features for several code bases. Reported directly to the Director of Technology, in a high impact, high exposure role. Added financial reporting capabilities through an existing API. Served as a Senior resource and mentored junior developers and interns in regards to best practices, documentation, version control, and working in larger teams. Guided team in untangling a web of dependencies that tied all of the company’s applications together.

Developed software web applications from end-to-end. Planned and implemented all phases of the SDLC including project management, client contact and meetings, and development.
