Originally called Open Energy, Applied Solar was a forward thinking solar company that developed solar-based clean energy solutions and innovative solar products. I joined the company and began overseeing the overall business development activities. I headed all their partner channels including managing the partnership with Eagle Roofing, one of the largest in the country. I played a key role in training hundreds of roofing contractors including Eagle Roofing's contractors and turning them into solar roofing contractors. This created an extensive solar installation network. Applied Solar's intellectual property was later sold to Suntech Solar. Applied Solar’s award-winning products include proprietary, cost-competitive and attractive (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) BIPV solar tiles, membranes and asphalt/composition products. I moved to San Diego in 2003 after becoming a distributor of flat screen plasma televisions. I noticed that the demand for flat screen televisions had surged across commercial establishments when we developed a multi-screen theater in Birmingham, Michigan. The televisions were used for displays, commercials and other information. Nearly 40% of business came from Southern California. After I moved to San Diego, I started to undertake complete installations of high end audio video equipment for high-net worth residents. Uptown Theaters is a result of me and my business partners taking an existing 1,200 seat live stage theater and converting it to an 8 screen multi-plex luxury cinema. The theatre became the catalysts for reviving and invigorating the historical retail district of Birmingham, Michigan. In addition to reviving the district, the opening of our second theater also paved the way for a vibrant night-life in Birmingham and ushering previously unseen economic benefits for the local community. Uptown Theatres became the top grossing theater, on a per seat basis, in the country at that time. Today the building continues to be a landmark for the downtown district of Birmingham, Michigan. In 1995, while developing the project of restoring a historical theater building in Birmingham, Michigan and converting it to a multi-screen luxury movie house, my partner and I decided to open a gourmet pretzel shop on the south side of the theatre, which would cater to the newfound foot traffic from movie-goers. The concept quickly became a hit with our customer and we ultimately opened 12 stores in multiple locations leading throughout the eastern half of the U.S. where well over a million pretzels being were sold. In 1993, I led the construction work for building the training facilities and practice rinks for the Dallas Stars. We took an earlier concept that was executed in Detroit and brought it to Dallas and coordinated the branding activities with the NHL team. The project that included the practice ice rinks, locker rooms, training room and other facilities was completed within 6 weeks working 24 hour shifts. We added a new rink along with the corporate offices inside the newly constructed building. The Dallas Stars are a professional ice hockey team located in Dallas, Texas, that play as a member in the 31-team National Hockey League (NHL). Founded in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, the team moved to Dallas in 1993 under then-owner, Norm Green. Since then, the club has made 14 playoff appearances, won seven division titles, captured two Presidents’ Trophies, and won the 1999 Stanley Cup.
