On joining, ERM Korea operated at a loss and followed local practices that did not align with ERM’s global governance. Through targeted restructuring, team expansion, and cultural integration, the business was transformed into a profitable, compliant entity, achieving a US$250k PBBIT and a 21% return on net revenue by FY10. The role demanded significant relationship-building to earn trust across the team, adapting to a different cultural environment while driving alignment with global expectations and standards.

Led the turnaround and integration of ERM Singapore, focusing on restoring profitability and driving growth. Responsible for end-to-end P&L oversight, strategic development, recruitment, team building, and strengthening client relationships. Upon joining, ERM Singapore had three consultants and was operating near break-even, with a profit before tax (PBBIT) of US$40k and a 7% return on net revenue. Through effective business reorganization and staff development, grew the team to twenty consultants, achieving a PBBIT of US$478k and a 28% return on net by FY08. Successfully revitalized the company by implementing a client-focused growth strategy and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

Directed the strategy and operations of ERM Malaysia's environmental team, with a focus on team development, utilization, and financial performance. Oversaw budgeting, resource planning, and team productivity to align with organizational goals. Tasked with establishing and integrating a new EHS management system certification and verification service line within URS’s existing business structure. Founded URS Verification Limited (URSVL) in London in July 2001, achieving UKAS accreditation as an ISO14001 certification provider by November 2001, with the first certificate awarded to Chemical Synthesis Services. Strategically planned and embedded the new service line into URS’s operations, building trust with internal client relationship managers to gain client introductions and drive market adoption. Additionally, secured IEMA registration for an Advanced EMS Auditing Training Course, training URS staff across Europe to align with the integrated ISO14001 certification services, strengthening URS’s internal capabilities and service continuity across regions.

Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Thailand

Charged with establishing and fully integrating ERM CVS’s ISO14001 certification services into ERM’s existing operations across Asia and Australia, covering thirteen countries. Opened and managed ERM CVS’s Asia Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok in July 1999, developing and executing a strategic business plan that embedded certification services into ERM’s established business framework. Built strong relationships with ERM client relationship managers to facilitate client introductions and gain traction for the new service line. As lead trainer for the IEMA-registered Advanced EMS Auditing Training Course, trained ERM consultants across the region to deliver ISO14001 certification services. Responsible for regional team management and the growth of certification services, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with ERM’s broader service offerings.

Focused on delivering EHS compliance and due diligence audits, environmental impact assessments, and environmental management system services aligned with ISO14001 standards. Provided training on environmental management practices, fostering expertise among both clients and ERM team members. As demand for ISO14001 certification services grew, increasingly collaborated with ERM’s certification division, ERM CVS, gaining specialized experience in certification audits. This technical foundation and alignment with ERM CVS’s certification standards led to a full-time transition to ERM CVS to support the expansion and integration of certification services across the region.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, the APIEA’s revenue model was structured around membership fees, newsletter sales, research, conferences, and events, achieving an annual turnover of US$400k by 1996. Built high-level relationships across industry, government, academia, and consulting who were the institutes members, advisors and board members. In 1997, managed the successful integration of APIEA’s services into the Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia (ENSEARCH), ensuring APIEA’s ongoing impact within an established regional institute.

Managed the membership subscription system for the Institute of Environmental Assessment (IEA) while collaborating closely with the Chief Executive to secure private sector funding for a new initiative. Played a key role in developing the strategic plan to establish a sister organization, the Asia Pacific Institute of Environmental Assessment (APIEA), aimed at expanding IEA’s reach into the Asia Pacific region.
