The Azorean violinist David Duarte completed the Violin course of Conservatório Regional da Horta and the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. He also holds a Master’s degree in Violin Teaching from Escola das Artes of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto.Born in Faial Island, he began his violin learning at the age of 7, with violinist and professor Alexander Levtchenko. He entered Conservatório Regional da Horta, where he started as a student of Yuriy Gertsev, and then completed the Basic and Secondary courses in the class of Alla Gertseva.Through that time, he attended a Violin MasterClass with Gareguin Aroutiounian (Angra do Heroísmo-2005). He joined internships of Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil de Lisboa in the Azores (Pico-2006 and Faial-2008) with maestro Christopher Bochmann. He was selected by maestro Pio Salloto to join the Orquestra de Jovens dos Conservatórios Oficiais de Música (OJ.COM) in the VI Internship (Ponta Delgada-2007) and, in the same year, in the Music Schools Festival at the Centro Cultural de Belém-“1001 músicos no CCB”. In high school, he played as Concertmaster the chamber music groups and string orchestra of the Conservatory.In 2010, David left to the Portuguese capital. He was admitted to Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. There, he studied with Professor Khachatur Amirkhanyan and later, Gareguin Aroutiounian, with whom he completed his Bachelor’s degree in July 2013.He then continued his studies and in 2015 finished his Master’s degree in Violin Performance at the same institution, under the guidance of Professor Bin Chao.During those years of university, he played in the ESML's Symphony Orchestra and joined the Early Music Group and the Early Music Orchestra. He was a Chamber Music student of Professors Stephen Bull and Pedro Castro. He also benefited from contact with teachers such as Ana Manzanilla, Alexandra Mendes and Denys Stetsenko.At Faial Island, he joined Horta Camerata under the direction of maestro Kurt Spanier, in concerts promoted by Câmara Municipal da Horta.He widened his academics in 2018, completing the Master’s degree in Violin Teaching at the Escola das Artes of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto.That year, he started working as a violin teacher at EB 2.3 Professor José Buísel in Portimão, where he also taught music theory.He regularly performs as a violinist in the string trio of Grupo Coral da Horta and other local concerts and events.Since September 2022, he works as a violin teacher at Conservatório Regional da Horta.
