I worked to make biomedical research relevant and accessible to the public and especially K-12 students and teachers:- Planned and executed communication strategies to disseminate science advances and initiatives to health professionals, researchers, government and community officials, and the public. Managed communications branch activities and supervised employees.- Oversaw digital communications platforms that reached over 500,000 visitors each year. - Oversaw all technical aspects of competitive federal contracts, from developing RFPs and reviewing proposals to overseeing project budgets and evaluating contractor performance. - Led multi-disciplinary teams to design, implement and evaluate national K-12 STEM education projects. Projects included the NIH Curriculum Supplements and related professional development activities, LifeWorks Career website, and SciLife – a career program aimed at minority students. - Presented education and communications initiatives to varied audiences at local, state-wide, national and international conferences - Supervised teachers, scientists, and students in NIH research internships and policy fellowships - Advised leadership on communications strategies and education issues, and coordinated responses to queries from the executive branch, Congress and the public - Organized and led over 400 NIH colleagues and grantees, including the NIH Director, in developing and presenting public exhibits at 2010 and 2012 USA Science and Engineering Festivals
