This unique opportunity was a great way for me to experience working closely with a small design company. I had 2 main roles as part of my experience – the first of which was as a testing/repair and maintenance engineer. I was part of a small testing team for “Therm-X”, a thermal processing drilling waste management unit, which was in its pre-production phase. As… Show more This unique opportunity was a great way for me to experience working closely with a small design company. I had 2 main roles as part of my experience – the first of which was as a testing/repair and maintenance engineer. I was part of a small testing team for “Therm-X”, a thermal processing drilling waste management unit, which was in its pre-production phase. In testing, a high level of communication between all team members was crucial, to safely execute the running procedure of the unit. As one of the roles involved practical engineering activities, my role was to ensure a safe and efficient task rotation between team members, to avoid fatigue and/or injury. I was also tasked with ensuring there were no process blockages (as far as possible) during down-time.My secondary role was in research and development. This was for the proposed scaled-up product, as the unit was then unusable in a professional environment, since it was underdeveloped technically and commercially. I draughted the main body and some key features of the interior of the unit using SolidWorks, from paper sketches and by examining the current model. I also modified several documents, including AutoCAD P&I diagrams and conclusive reports written for the eyes of WmC Developments’ main financial partner. I was involved in the development of a filtration system that operated sub-optimally. I suggested using the same method as before, with a change in material, to avoid deterioration. These involved researching price and availability of material, and also ease of manufacture. This system and material will be used in the final product. Show less
