My leadership career began with a phone call I answered the summer before my junior year at Dickinson College: "How would you like to be the Marketing Director for eight Wendy’s franchises in South Jersey?" The person asking was my boss and mentor from a summer job I had on the Ocean City, NJ boardwalk the summer before. I accepted and got right to work. And he threw me in the deep end of the crazy global burger business before I was old enough to order a beer.I discovered you can learn how to lead others by trial-and-error, but there are better ways to do it. I also had mentors who coached me along the way. And I learned lessons I’ll never forget. After college, I worked as the Marketing Director at Lapidary Journal, the world's oldest gemstone and jewelry arts publisher. While there, I helped launch new magazines and create trade shows around the US that still exist today. I also served as a consultant to key advertisers on how to increase the impact of their marketing. My desire to help others led me to complete a Master's in Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. I was promoted to Vice President of Marketing and Organizational Development and had the chance to apply what I had learned in graduate school. We implemented programs on employee engagement, work-life balance, optimism, communication, decision-making, team-building, problem-solving, and more. I continued my training at Widener University for another Master's degree and a Doctorate in psychology. I started Weiman Consulting, a leadership consulting firm, after becoming a licensed psychologist in 1998.
