Frankly, he has been performing at Staff level since he was hired in May 15, 2006 following a very successful year long co-op as in 2005. As his office mate and mentor I feel it is my job to advocate for him. Accomplishments and Responsibilities: Windell is wrapping up his duties as Hardware Human Factors lead on the HS21 XM, with quite a few service and ease of use improvements over the predecessor blade products. For example: the HS21 XM is the first blade or server to feature a uDOC memory drive. Windell worked closely with Mechanical and Electrical development to design a retention scheme that is intuitive, easy to use, and will become the user accessible uDOC standard for IBM products across the board as more of them add uDOC functionality in the near future. I am incorporating this uDOC design as a complete solution into the BC S chassis media tray. Windell is Hardware Human Factors lead on multiple high focus blade products for 2007 and 2008. Windell completed his Masters Degree in Psychology (Human Factors) in early 2007 while covering the above product load. After his success during the 2005 co-op, it is my personal belief that Windell was hired in at band 6 instead of 7 because he had not yet completed his Master's Degree requirements because he already demonstrated the skills necessary to be a successful Hardware Human Factors engineer even as a co-op. Windell has also showed great leadership potential when he provided great mentoring to the 2006 co-ops team during his first year as a full time employee. Windell has already achieved 2nd Patent Plateau (How many band 6, first year hires can claim that?) and I expect him to earn his 3rd Patent by years end. Windell has been an active member of UT Patent review board in 2007. He was added by Mark Molander in recognition of Windell's ability to innovate, provide great defense of his own and other ideas during review with the IP Lawyers, and he is quick to give advice on how to modify not-quite-good-enough ideas into ideas meriting a patent search. The most telling achievement is that developers from many disciplines come to him for advice. He has established himself as resource and people who work with him seek his advice prior to making design decisions. I had no concerns about leaving Windell as my back up for all Blade product questions when I was away on vacation for a week."
