About David Wivell
I am back in my hometown working to recruit excellent international students from around the world - especially Asia - to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). I have a diverse background in international television news, media production, educational recruiting and Asia - especially China. I have worked in education in a variety of positions for a total of 15 years - working with Enrollment and International Student Services, and in Communications and Public Relations. My other career path was as an accredited television journalist, based in Beijing, China, for 12 years. As the Senior Producer for China with the Associated Press (and earlier with Worldwide Television News) I covered stories ranging from major political issues, to high-level international visits, to natural disasters to civil and ethnic unrest. I have produced stories in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, and Mongolia as well as all of China's 33 provinces.I have lived in China off-and-on since I was a child in 1980. I am fluent in Mandarin, and have in-depth knowledge of, and connections to, Chinese culture. Have also studied and worked in South America and Nepal and am "rusty" in both Spanish and Nepali. I have an excellent ability to get-things-done in a wide variety of settings. I am friendly, a bit geeky, and tend to err on the positive side. Always interested in learning new things and brainstorming new ways to do things.
