Reported to the FLSmidth Country Manger & VP (USA based) (NOTE: Screen Media changed owners and job titles were changed over the years.)Managed strategy, planning, profit & loss, people, sales & business development and overall production operations, imports, exports, product development and supply chain.■ Growth of Turnover from R25m to R210m.Led the company through consistent growth, ensuring all associated company structures, processes and people were continuously improved, streamlined, restructured and capable of excellence in service delivery.■ Spearheaded Corporate Restructuring.Shaped the company to comply with FLSmidth’s international requirements in terms of cost to revenue ratio’s. This included a retrenchment programme.■ New Products, New Facilities Established.Secured various product licenses from international suppliers; and notably set up a joint venture manufacturing facility in Edenvale, SA with a French company. Implemented equipment, technology for world-class output.■ Positioned FLSmidth as a Market Leader.Through innovation, superior product development & engineering expertise, and through strong relationships with clients positioned the company a market leader – at times offering higher priced product but with growth at 15-20% pa.■ International Suppliers, Export.Developed relationships with raw materials & equipment suppliers in China; and also drove export activity to Africa, Indian Ocean Islands, Malaysia, Singapore, China, UK – overcoming cultural & language difficulties successfully.■ Disposals & Acquisitions.Negotiated the acquisition of Valmatex from Murray & Roberts (M&R) in 1997 and subsequent sale to Mentis. Also navigated changes in ownership, for eg. from Meshcape to Ludowici and then to FLSmidth.

Mechanization of explosive mining for Gold Mines. Involved in introduction of “water” hydraulics, back extruded ‘rapid yield props’, “flight” conveyor system for 90 meter stopes including blast barricades, advance system and mounted low profile drilling rigs.

Design hydraulic circuitry, run and manage projects and contracts for heavy industrial applications i.e. SIOM in pit material handling system. Including design of hydraulic cylinders for bespoke applications up to 1000 mm diameter along with standard actuators for industrial applications using up to 35 MPa operating pressure.
