Onsite organ donation coordinator and liaison for Donor Network West based at Stanford Adult & Children’s Hospitals.

Honored to work with brilliant people who save lives through organ donation. Clinical Procurement Coordinators respond to local hospitals to evaluate potential donor patients to determine medical suitability. Once authorized, the CPC assists in managing the patient in the ICU in collaboration with hospital nurses and physicians. Supporting donor families and providing family care is an essential part of the role. The CPC coordinates the allocation and recovery of the gifted organs for transplantation into waiting recipients. The CPC relies heavily on the support of other organ donation professionals at Donor Network West, and within the community of hospitals and medical examiner offices.

Responsible for oversight of clinical care delivery, quality improvement, education and training for the exclusive 911 emergency medical services ambulance transportation provider in Santa Clara County. Our staff consists of approximately 400 paramedics, EMTs and support personnel responding to 120,000 calls annually. We work very closely with 11 first responder and fire agencies in support of providing emergency care to our patients and transport to 12 local and regional hospital facilities.

Championed a revolutionary, next generation intraosseous insertion device (EZ-IO) through education and training across multiple disciplines at Vidacare which went on to be purchased by Teleflex. Provided clinical training for physician, nurse and paramedic users in the hospital and EMS settings where emphasis is placed on appropriate utilization of intraosseous insertion in emergent patients with limited vascular access. Supported new and ongoing implementation of the medical devices within user organizations, and served as educational faculty in regional cadaver labs.

Served in a number of roles including faculty instructor, internship coordinator, affiliate faculty and program director. As an instructor, primarily taught EMTs and paramedics in the didactic phases and also specialized in teaching the sciences, anatomy and physiology and numerous areas of pathophysiology. For more than ten years, served as the school’s designated director of specialty programs: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). As program director, oversaw all aspects of the EMS training program including the paramedic, EMT, first responder and CPR programs as well as coordination of the National Registry Exams.

As an independent contractor, authored and edited numerous textbooks, section chapters and ancillary materials within in the prehospital education market primarily targeted toward EMTs and paramedics.

Directed and oversaw ambulance operations in Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties and was responsible for 9-1-1 and non-emergency contracts in both areas. Oversaw and supported more than 200 paramedics, EMTs and support staff and directly managed a $13M budget. Continuously licensed as a paramedic since 1990.

Provided emergency medical care to the sick and injured; responded to emergency and non-emergency calls; administered basic and advanced life support to patients at the scene, en route to the hospital and in the prehospital setting; assessed the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical emergencies; maintained order at scenes, including crowd disbursement and care of family and friends; extricated victims of accidents, sudden illness or entrapment using proper rescue and medical techniques; effectively communicated with professional medical personnel and treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and/ or to arrange reception of patients to the appropriate center.

As Operations Manager, I directed and oversaw ambulance operations in Santa Cruz County and was responsible for the 9-1-1 and non-emergency contracts in the area including the support of approximately 75 paramedics and support staff within the operation.

Provided support, direction and oversight of EMTs, paramedics and other operational support staff; ensured quality field operations through daily contact, oversight and communication; responded to emergency medical calls of high priority nature, promoted the delivery of excellent customer service; responded to and resolved customer and staff inquiries; investigated events involving assigned units or staff including the completion of internal reports, operational leadership notification, counseling, reinforcing policy, and recommendation of training and/or corrective action, as necessary; ensured crew and vehicle appearance and performance was at or above standards; assessed and assured daily staffing, equipment, supply and vehicle needs. Coordinated as necessary with the scheduling, materials management and fleet maintenance departments.

Planned, coordinated and directed clinical quality improvement activities; managed clinical investigations and safety and risk reporting; worked with EMS Medical Directors to create, maintain and update clinical policy and protocol; liaison with local EMS agency, fire departments, and other public safety agencies; formulated education programs and instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops; organized, created and updated training manuals and documents; conducted new employee orientation, corporate academy training, infection control, illness and injury prevention, safety, documentation, internship and precepting, ACLS, PALS, PEPP, BTLS, CPR, MCI, OSHA, driver safety, corporate compliance, code of conduct, health and safety practices, public relations, refresher and upgrade training; measured progress and evaluated effectiveness of training programs, monitored progress of new and current employees during training periods, processed continuing education certificates.
