Currently working at Tyson Lighting, where I am playing an active role creating and developing new product designs, both for customer specific bespoke decorative lighting and for the company’s own product range. The role requires feasibility studies of customer requirements, whilst costing of products for each project. Liaising with both suppliers and the company’s own in-house production team throughout the design process. Also I am tasked with ensuring that the company designs meet external legislative and regulatory requirements set by bodies such as the LIA and UL. Also part of my role is creating drawings for client approval and production which follow SOPs whilst accurate BOMs are generated.

Employed as a Product Designer, my role involved taking responsibility of creating part and assembly drawings, and cataloguing them whilst finalising Bill of Materials for components. The role also involved developing SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and ensuring processes run smoothly when undertaking R&D, NPD and NPI. This entailed, creating product assembly and packing instructions for internal team members, external stakeholders, and customers.

I was involved with creating and rationalising design furniture concepts and develop these concepts to complete finalised designs. I had been successful delivering accurate and detailed drawings for both customer approval and production, producing high quality furniture. Creating bespoke furniture designs was very enjoyable, especially seeing the sketch concept taken through to a tangible design the customer was thrilled with.

Customers I dealt with included Architects, Landscape Gardeners, Construction Companies and Local Government. I worked from concept to reality drawings to MSM, where products were manufactured on site in the UK. I ensured the importance of aesthetics and attention to detail alongside providing the most efficient method of manufacturing. I utilised the latest in 3D CAD software to translate customer concepts into a working drawing for approval.

During my time at UK POS, I supported the procurement team rationalise design projects for custom made orders. Client briefs were reviewed and Product Designs were created, with drawings and visuals provided to project stakeholders. Once orders were placed, I drew the required drawings to be used for internal or external manufacturing and then the finished products were shipped.

I was working as a Product Designer, designing bespoke high-end furniture for exclusive clientele. Projects that I worked on varied significantly and often each had its unique set of challenges. I worked from preliminary customer concepts and took them to a stage where they could be manufactured whilst ensuring that they were commercially viable. The process of resolving and rationalising customer desired specifications to grounded product design solutions that meet both the needs of the customer and those of the manufacturer were very enjoyable.

Manchester

Product Designer working on Special Projects creating Bespoke Lighting Products for individual customers. A very creative and enjoyable role where I used Solidworks, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, Freehand Sketching and other creative media tools. Projects typically went from developing a brief, producing drawings, mocking up prototypes to making the real thing! In addition to this, costed BOMs for each product were created and pricing issued to Sales. Also, my role entailed creating both assembly and installation instructions for each bespoke lighting design whilst liaising with many key levels and departments within the company.

As a Product Designer I helped design products with the aid of Solidworks working within a team so that they could be manufactured economically and efficiently. Also the role involved liaising with key people at all levels of design, sales, production and procurement. I gained much knowledge of high volume production methods and sheet metal techniques.

Working at UniStage and UniPlay as a Product Designer, my role was devising and then introducing a constructive interdependent product development process. This role involved taking professional responsibility of design activities within both companies, including project management. This position was an exciting one as it provided me with the opportunity to put into practice everything that I have learned whilst at University.Design work included designing timber playground equipment, playground markings, play shelters and school stage furniture.

Nelson

Employed at Chantelle Lighting Ltd where I practiced as professional lighting product designer. I designed, developed and engineered bespoke light fittings for the hospitality market. This role involved creating new fittings to meet client’s specialist requirements, which involved liaising with design consultancies on multiple major projects during product development. As a product designer, I worked closely with fabricators & engineers in manufacturing allowing Chantelle to produce feasible practical products within a specified limited time scale and budget. Researching new and upcoming lighting technologies including materials and manufacturing methods was a critical function I fulfilled. For each new product, corresponding BOMs were created and pricing issued to Sales. Sketch work, dimensioned elevation drawings and 3D CAD visuals were produced to aid generation of ideas and to examine tangible design concepts?

Accrington

Employed at What More UK as a product designer creating a varied range of injection moulded products. Training was provided in AutoCAD Inventor 11 to aid the visualisation of concepts. I was placed to design a wide range of home-wares and garden-wares. The role was based on strong responsibilities to meet deadlines, working with sales/marketing departments, along-side management, with good knowledge of cost cutting and target markets.

Heywood

Work placement in my 2nd year of university, where I was involved with developing products from marketing to manufacturing. I was assigned as a product design consultant for the company where I was contracted to work on a product design project. This focused on introducing a new silicon product for the ‘foot comfort wear’ market, and developing prototypes to be suitable to be used with ‘toe-post’ shoes. In January 2008, Scholl successfully released two products heavily styled and based on the original concept design I helped produce while working as a consultant.
