In the fall of 2022, I embarked on my self-directed research program on the relationship between Iran and the West. To start, I found an academic mentor (Colin Baker), and with his guidance, developed the independent study curriculum that would provide the groundwork for my research paper “Iran and The West: Shared Past, Shared Future?” Recognizing a need for nuanced understanding, I delved into the relationship between Iran and the major Western powers, notably the United States and Great Britain. While Iran is portrayed as a rogue, ultra-religious pariah by the United States and Britain alike, my work demonstrates how all powers have mutual interests in the region, even since 1979. As such, collaboration isn’t a mere pipedream, but can be an actual cornerstone for diplomatic policy.I have since presented versions of my work with Mr. Baker at the 103rd annual National Council for the Social Studies conference (2023; TN) and the Minnesota Council for the Social Studies conference (2024; MN).

Merit-based, scholarship language program in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. This intensive summer language and cultural immersion program spanned six weeks, with daily sessions lasting between 5-6 hours. Living with my host family provided the opportunity to delve into Tajikistan’s culture, cuisine, traditions, and everyday life. Upon completion of the program, I successfully completed the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages’ (ACTFL) Tajiki Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), attaining the Intermediate-Mid proficiency level.
