Director Of TechnologyHydrostor Mar 2018 - May 2022Toronto, Ontario, CaReporting to the Chief Operating Officer, I was responsible for: the operational oversight of Hydrostor’s technology development; solution development and execution as well as project management for mission critical issues; quantification and improvement of ACAES’s key performance characteristics; developing relationships with strategically significant suppliers; managing Hydrostor’s intellectual property portfolio; conducting technical evaluations of incorporable technologies and competitors; and fostering innovation at all levels of the organization with a direct report team of 3 engineers. -
Senior EngineerHydrostor Nov 2016 - Mar 2018Toronto, Ontario, CaReporting to the Vice President Engineering & Projects, I was responsible for: detailed engineering of ACAES facilities; project management and solution development for challenging engineering problems; procurement of the major equipment at Hydrostor’s first commercial ACAES facility; and the quantification and improvement of ACAES’s key performance characteristics.During this time I was a key driver in the delivery of the world’s first fuel-free compressed air energy storage facility, a flagship demonstration which led to a $10M equity financing, partnership with AECOM, and the first commercial sale of ACAES. I successfully solved a challenging two-phase flow issue preventing the operation of the demonstration facility with a 1/100th physical scale model. -
Associate EngineerHydrostor Apr 2015 - Oct 2016Toronto, Ontario, CaI primarily designed sub-sea air-handling equipment for underwater air storage of CAES for and supported the successful deployed the largest underwater air storage system for CAES. This required meticulous planning, close coordination between crews on several vessels, divers, and ROVs. I also created modelling tools for CAES that reduced project sizing and performance estimating from 40 to 4 hours. These were corroborated with an existing facility and formed the foundation to quantify and improve ACAES’s key performance characteristics. -
Policy AnalystEnergy Storage Canada Jan 2015 - Apr 2015Toronto, Ontario, CaA non-profit industry association seeking to advance energy storage within Ontario through education, policy and advocacy.Conducted policy research and analysis to assist the executive director, gaining a reputation for investigative tenacity.Created long-lasting relationships with contacts in Ontario’s electricity and energy storage space, have since parlayed relationships into employment opportunities and business development opportunities for employers. -
Research And Development EngineerInmotive May 2012 - Jan 2015Toronto, Ontario, Cawww.inmotive.cominMotive is developing a breakthrough innovation for motor performance, the Ingear. A truly innovative transmission system, it is unique in its ability to shift under load while always maintaining a synchronous drive. Enabling the right-sizing of electric motors, it is a disruptive technology significantly reducing energy consumption and motor cost while improving power factor and torque capability. I was a member of a multidisciplinary product design team consisting of firmware developers, mechanical and electrical engineers and business development personnel. My main responsibilities were: the design of mechanical components and assemblies from concept using SolidWorks, producing of manufacturing drawings (inc. GD&T), developing analytical models and managing prototype manufacturing. I also developed, conducted and analyzed validation tests utilizing a wide array of experimentation techniques, sensors and data acquisition systems.Presenting the prototype to investors, potential licencors and to industrial partners I gained a reputation for tailoring technical information to be understandable from engineers to businesspersons.Notable achievements:-- Optimized the design and manufacturing processes of a high-performance linear electromagnetic actuator improving operating characteristics, mean time to failure, ease of manufacturing and in-process yield-- Field tested prototype at a product distribution centre of a Fortune 100 company, quantified the energy savings and performed a cost savings analysis for various energy cost structures that their operations incur-- Contributed in the development of three successive generations of prototypes, resulting in the securing of over $1M in funding -
Non-Destructive Testing SpecialistHatch Aug 2011 - May 2012Mississauga, Ontario, CaOne of Canada's largest engineering firms, Hatch is a global multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a primary focus in mining and metals.I identified solutions in the application of Radar Level Measurement (RLM) in smelting operations and converted what was a research project into a salable product for Hatch. Targeting a potential early adopter I leveraged a a trusted client relationship to complete the first sale of this system for Hatch.I engaged, interviewed, presented and wrote technical reports for senior executives of global clients which often required the navigation of diverse linguistic, cultural and time differences to ensure effective implementation of various projects. Additionally, this position required extensive international travel to work with clients, across 5 continents often to remote locations. As a side project I conducted and analyzed the results of impact-echo testing in smelting furnaces and in one case identified a critically worn furnace wall, mitigating risk. -
Research AssistantQueen'S University Department Of Physics May 2009 - Aug 2009Kingston, On, CaParticipated in the applied magnetics’ research group, investigating non-destructive testing (NDT) strain evaluation techniques with a principle focus on the application of Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) sensors for detection of a known failure in CANDU nuclear reactor feed water pipes.Attended the 9th School for Neutron Scattering held by the Canadian Institute for Neutron Scattering at Chalk River in order to learn about the experimental method’s viability as a non-destructive strain evaluation technique. -
Field TechnicianHaddad Geotechnical May 2008 - Aug 2008Performed laboratory and on-site testing of soils, concrete and asphalt to ensure elements of the building code were being upheld; presented the findings to the senior engineers with technical analysis for their official reports.
