Profile bio

About Davion Hill, Ph.D.

With over 20 years in materials and energy technology and more than 15 years in energy storage specifically, I’ve experienced change and evolution in the energy industry, while driving some of that change myself. As Co-founder of Momentum Energy Storage Partners I am seeing the energy industry change rapidly. Never in the history of humanity have we seen this much change in how we generate and store electricity. A mere 100 years ago, we were just starting to run wires across the United States. Now we are building giant batteries. I presently serve as Vice Chair NYBEST, and as former President and Chairman of NAATBatt I was lucky to see the industry grow from kW pilots to GWs of operating projects. At DNV I helped grow the business from a few engineers to a few dozen, helping clients build over a GW of projects along the way. Since 2007, I've been logging thousands of hours testing batteries (and blowing some of them up). I’ve been a Deposed and qualified expert witness on battery energy storage performance and safety cases and was Principal author and lead investigator on industry-leading energy storage reports on critical issues. Back then, my goal was to learn from the mistakes and do it better. I'm still focused on that goal. I've spoken at hundreds of conferences and events and accumulated over 60 publications in journals, conference papers, and articles in energy and materials since 2006.I seek to work with like-minded colleagues and partners who believe in making a better world through improvement. I'm a problem solver, and I like working with other problem solvers. There is nothing more satisfying than finishing a difficult task with other people who also enjoy the work. Someday, I’ll be gone, but my kids will be here, the Earth will still be here. The best I can do is try to make it better for them and all who come after. We might as well do something useful during our short time here. Other areas of expertise and interest: automotive technology (and hobby wrenching), 3D printing and advanced materials and manufacturing, hybrid marine vessels, home backup and hybrid generator applications, performance electric vehicles, EV charging, and woodworking.

Listed skills include Materials Science, Materials, Engineering, Renewable Energy, and 34 others.
