Very likely to be smiling :)A self-defined generalist, I'm someone who considers anything and everything to be interesting, a point which I think is proved by the amount of specialization in today's world, and a philosophy that was shaped by my upbringing. My childhood was filled with various activities; sports, concert band, chorus, spelling and geography bees, chess club, and helping at home; splitting wood, landscaping, sealing the driveway, and much more. As I grew, I took an interest to personal computing and tech, becoming familiar with home networking and serving as my family's de facto IT guy, and building my first custom PC and mechanical keyboard during high school. These interests molded me into a tech enthusiast, being able to remember spec sheets for obscure Android devices, putting together concept PC builds on pcpartpicker.com, and staying up to date with the latest hardware. While my tinkering gave me a strong set of practical skills, I find that it lacked purpose and a sense of direction. Upon graduation, I enrolled in UNH's mechanical engineering program on the basis that I was good at science and math. I do not regret my degree choice, as I find ME to be the most general engineering discipline, but I realize that my interests aligned more with electrical and computer engineering. Despite my interests, I wasn't introduced to computer programming until my sophomore year in college, which may have limited my perspective in choosing my degree.Things came full circle in my junior year, when I took a computational fluid dynamics course that exposed me to OpenFOAM. This toolbox bridged my interests in computing and mechanical engineering. I was able to apply my knowledge as an intern at DEKA R&D, where I was exposed to the Unix environment and CLI programs, a style of computing that was contrary to my previous understanding of the Windows environment and GUI programs.I stayed familiar with computer aided engineering tools, which led to a position with Ansys as a test engineer for the Fluent CFD package. This role gave me experience in managing many types of Linux and Windows servers, full stack development with Django, automation using CI/CD platforms like Azure DevOps, and developing internal tools to simplify workflows. I leaned into this fully, reading Hacker News and tech forums daily, and building a homelab to host personal services and deploy new ones that I learned from said forums. Now I find myself at a crossroads between mechanical and software engineering. I intend to obtain a graduate degree to better integrate the two.

R&D Verification Engineer Ii - Fluids Business UnitAnsys Apr 2024 - Oct 2024Lebanon, New Hampshire, United StatesIn my new role, I maintained my previous responsibilities, while leading the testing effort for a nascent, high priority cloud feature on short notice. This involved close communication with the Cloud Solutions & Enablement team, creating 12 interactive test cases to validate user acceptance criteria, and over 20 defects created and resolved.I continued to participate in pre-release hardening testing, which has led to strong familiarity with Fluent's public tutorial suite, including applications of:- blade modeling- combustion- discrete particle modeling- fluid-structure interaction- hypersonic flow- multiphase flow - radiation- turbomachineryand more.Below are deliverables completed while in this role:- Integrated a tool into the testing portal that reports the conversion progress of text user interface commands from Scheme to Python, an ongoing effort in the Fluent team- Developed a Git wrapper in Python to handle sparse checkouts and git-lfs configuration - Started a team wiki to distribute tribal knowledge about custom workflows, common issues, and other shared content -
R&D Verification Engineer - Fluids Business UnitAnsys Sep 2022 - Mar 2024Lebanon, New Hampshire, United StatesUpon joining Ansys, I was tasked with assisting the development of a Django-based test results portal for the Fluent product. The Fluent test suite contains thousands of tests run in multiple variations, resulting in tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of test result posts per day. Thus, creating tools to assist test engineers with identifying regressions and submitting bugs to developers is valuable.Features added include a formatted test submission tool, a performance test visualizer, and a test rerun script generator. Having little experience with full-stack development, let alone web development in general at the time, I learned a lot and became a routine contributor to the testing portal.Around the same time, I also began assisting with feature testing in the simulation environment group, which covers UI/UX, post-processing, and solution monitoring. This involves communicating with developers about user acceptance criteria and developing test cases that satisfy them.As I onboarded, I was asked to manage a historically difficult Windows regression testing workflow, which used Azure DevOps Pipelines for automation. I overhauled this workflow, switching from Classic pipelines to YAML pipelines to leverage Git version control, and resolving an issue that increased agent connection stability and uptime significantly, consequently increasing regression testing frequency. This enables more thorough build coverage for the test suite, raising quality assurance. Several time-intensive, manual regression testing workflows were automated, including Workbench integration, System Coupling, and RSM testing. In a desire for more development work, I pushed to start contributing to Fluent's Python-based test runner, as it was maintained by a sole developer in the DevOps group. I resolved one of many enhancements suggested by the testing team, in part due to my embedded position in the testing team. -
