At Nature's Classroom, I taught students science, philosophy, art, and other subjects in an outdoor setting. NC is a seasonal residential program where students stay onsite from three to five days. My fellow teachers and I taught the students, ate with them, went on hikes, and did several fun night projects like science fair and night hike. Working at Nature's Classroom allowed me to experience New England's diverse habitats and work with some very innovative teachers.

The most unique aspect of this job was engaging in animal husbandry and using animals in education. I learned to care for and safely handle many species of owls, hawks, snakes, turtles, lizards, and amphibians. I would frequently give live animal presentations off property to groups ranging from a dozen or so up to over 100. Handling birds of prey and snakes while trying to project and engage large audiences made me a much better public speaker. Show less

I used a variety of classroom technologies to teach my students lessons in core subjects like reading, writing, math, and science. In addition to using technology in the classroom, I also wrote hands-on activities into my lesson plans like planting seeds or using various rocks and soil samples to make geologic models.

I was responsible for stocking, merchandising, customer service, ensuring quality of products, and assisting in ordering. My supervisors, coworkers, and I formed a great team that pushed our produce department to be one of the most profitable in the district even though we were in competition with larger departments. This job taught me about leadership, sales, customer service, merchandising, and the importance of being detail oriented and thorough.
