Assisted in general maintenance of zoo habitats and enclosures, prepared diets, gathered medication, and fed animals. Ensured food inventory was stocked. Observed exhibited behaviors and general mental and physical health of animals, and notified primary Keepers about any perceived abnormalities. Assisted in presentation of education animals to the public, including answering questions from the public, presenting facts about the animals on display, and ensuring the safety of both animals and the public by assisting in crowd control. Observed vet rounds and assisted in procedures and training of animals.Worked with a variety of animals, under the supervision of a trained Zoo Keeper, including tigers, lions, jaguars, giraffes, Aldabra tortoises, gibbons, general hoofstock, and others.Assigned and completed a project to create a scenario that evoked natural behaviors from the lions. Created and presented idea to Lion Keeper and Area Supervisors. Worked with Lion Keeper and Supervisor to create a 4X4 table to go into the lion night house for training purposes. Results indicated that the table assisted in the medical process by allowing for easier injections of medicine. Evoked natural behavior by allowing cats to jump, crawl, and be up high. Paid for 300 square feet of sod for lion enclosure where there was previously primarily dirt. Coordinated with supervisors and helped install sod in the lion enclosure. Results indicated that the lions spent significantly more time laying on it compared to on the dirt, especially in shaded areas. Lions also demonstrated digging behavior with the sod.
