About Barbara Davis

How do you feel about change? Most people don't say "Oh boy! A new system/process!" as the sum total of their response. Even when excited by the advantages something new brings, they are probably somewhere between anxious, angry, and frightened. That's why you need people like me when implementing projects. After being in some form of communications for a whole bunch of years, I realized that helping people go from "Huh?" (or worse, "Oh no!") to "Oh! Got it!" (or better yet "Cool!") is what I like best. It's not just about teaching people how to use something new — it's about supporting and enabling them throughout the change journey. It's training PLUS helping them see why the change was needed and getting them onboard, and following up to ensure they have adopted (and therefore you are realizing the benefits you anticipated) the new process/platform. End users must have an unflagging advocate who is empathetic to their needs and able to see things from their perspective; the business needs a strategic member of the project team who understand the business objectives. In other words, they need people like me, who excel at presenting information in the form, words, and medium (spoiler alert: it's NOT long emails) that make sense for end users to bring them along on the change journey for successful project implementation.By the way, I thrive in uncharted territory ("Ideation" is my number one strength in the Gallup Strengths Finder) and actually enjoy a VUCA environment. I love finding the path forward amidst chaos.Experience: Change management, employee engagement/internal communications, marketing communications, issues management and crisis communications, public relations, operational communications, branding, communications strategies, intranet, content management. Oh, and “other duties as assigned.” (You can learn a lot from that one!)

    Dupont Dec 2017 - Nov 2021

Now working full-time on Communications and Change Management for our multi-year enterprise IT transformation. Looking forward to learning a lot more about SAP and working with colleagues from other areas of the company.Previously: Managed internal engagement within our global IT team. Created the IT "voice," modernized the look and feel, and led the shift to a user-centric approach for communications to the 30,000+ DuPont colleagues who interact with IT products and processes. Created/oversaw the stakeholder engagement and corresponding communication plans for IT projects. Actually — I still do this last thing, but for a "project" on a much, much larger scale.
  • Dupont
Communications & Change Management Leader - Sourcing & Logistics
    Dupont Jun 2013 - Dec 2017
    Wilmington, Delaware
Managed/designed/created/executed communications for the 850-person global Sourcing & Logistics function. Among my responsibilities are to plan and execute quarterly global all-hands Town Hall meetings and leadership team (~80 managers around the globe) meetings, and to provide communications support for the Chief Procurement Officer and his staff for speeches, presentations, and materials for internal customers, industry groups, and other stakeholders. I've become a bit of a SharePoint geek and curate the content on the largest site in the company, where my most recent project is the creation of a "clients' portal" for our internal customers. On more complex projects and processes, I lead the change management communications workstream, consisting of stakeholder assessment and communication planning and execution, from supplier diversity to the rolling out a new global credit card program. As I continue to learn the art and science of procurement (a part of "business" that was new to me), I am delighted to be working with smart, dedicated people in a company with such a rich history of innovation.
  • Weston Solutions, Inc.
    Marketing Project Manager
Weston Solutions, Inc. Jan 2007 - May 2013
    West Chester, Pa
I worked on a variety of communication-related projects, from brochures and case studies to employee engagement initiatives. I've learned that EVERYTHING can be interesting, when you know enough about it. Even landfills. Even storm water. Especially those things, actually. I enjoyed being able to take a bunch of data and put it together in a way that makes someone say "Oh! Now I see! I couldn't get it before!" Creating materials that engaged employees in company initiatives may have been even more rewarding. It was my goal to create "results envy" when people read our case studies and saw what we accomplished for our clients, and to always ask the right questions so my internal clients got what they needed, regardless of what they initially asked for.
  • Access Group
    Manager, Corporate Communications
    Access Group Oct 2003 - Jan 2007
Wrote and edited sales collateral, managed numerous customized pieces. Oversaw annual revision to corporate material and bank memorandum. Acknowledged subject matter expert on operational communications in support of sales team , internal customers, and customers. Communications expert on team that implemented loan servicing, a new corporate capability. Wrote procedures, policies, customer letters, other operational communications.
  • National Semiconductor
    Site Communications Manager
    National Semiconductor 2000 - 2003
Internal communications, community/public relations, a dabbling of public affairs -- really, anything that involved words, plus a lot of employee engagement initiatives.
  • Weinstein Associates
    Technical Writer
    Weinstein Associates 1994 - 1997
Consulted with companies to reduce their liability exposure, specializing in user communications and the development and testing of user manuals and warning labels.
  • U.S. Navy
    Public Affairs Officer
    U.S. Navy 1988 - 1994
Naval Air Station, Brunsick, ME. Now, sadly, closed. What a great job: everything from publishing the base newspaper to Boy Scout tours to air shows, with adrenaline-boosting crisis communications thrown in for good measure.
