Managing Director, Advocacy & Engagement Programs

Provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction to the Advocacy (federal and state) and Political Affairs departments in their ultimate objective to advance the Institute’s public policy agenda before all levels of government. The position also directs the management of ArchiPAC, AIA’s federal political action committee, and the Architects Advocacy Fund. In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, the Managing Director also helps to lead the Advocacy and Relationships team's operational efforts, including budget and operational planning, team building, coordination with other AIA departments, acting as a liaison to other organizations, and serving as an advisor to leadership and other stakeholders, as needed. • Partnered with state component executives to launch a multi-state fundraising pilot program to increase association member participation in the PAC.• Spearheaded the development of a political education fund designed to help fund relationship-building efforts with state legislators and local mayors.• Managing a staff of eight advocacy staffers, including two senior directors, one director, four managers, and one specialist.• Negotiated a $1.8 million budget with the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Advocacy, creating a balanced budget and reducing spending by $175,000.
