In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, the Managing Director also helps to lead the Advocacy and Relationships team's operational efforts, including budget and operational planning, team building, coordination with other AIA departments, acting as a liaison to other organizations, and serving as an advisor to leadership and other stakeholders, as needed. • Partnered with state component executives to launch a multi-state fundraising pilot program to increase association member participation in the PAC.• Spearheaded the development of a political education fund designed to help fund relationship-building efforts with state legislators and local mayors.• Managing a staff of eight advocacy staffers, including two senior directors, one director, four managers, and one specialist.• Negotiated a $1.8 million budget with the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Advocacy, creating a balanced budget and reducing spending by $175,000.

Responsible for developing and implementing a long-range strategy to grow the ability of AIA's state and local components to engage in legislative and political advocacy, including introducing grassroots outreach tools and techniques, advocacy and PAC program development, coordinated member engagement strategies, and PAC and advocacy training.• Advise and lead innovative efforts to educate and train members on political programming, state PAC planning, and implement advocacy-related activities.• Oversee the development and implementation of strategies to grow AIA state and local component's ability to deliver advocacy services to their members, and provide capacity-building tools, training, and organizational assistance, enabling them to engage in advocacy at the state and local government levels. • Coordinate with AIA's advocacy and state and local team staff to enhance advocacy efforts and increase coordination between components and national AIA.• Initiated virtual Capitol Hill Day event for 613 advocates who attended 371 meetings with legislative representatives.
