I,m currently a Prison Officer dealing with both remand & sentenced prisoners. My main duties involve the safe well being of the prisoners in my care, i have to be very security concious and alert at all times. I am also a First Aid instructor which includes teaching both staff & prisoners the ability to save a person's life, as such this enables me to meet people from various backgrounds and this requires me adapt myself to change my teaching style to accommodate people's learning needs, and as such i am comfortable standing up in front of people for public speaking, I am also a trained Hostage Negotiator, this requires me to deal with both hostage situations , acts of concerted indiscipline and rooftop (at height) protests ( for which I have also been trained ). This particular role requires me to remain calm & composed when dealing with these very stressful situations to make for a trouble free conclusion . Fire steward were i have to do numerous fire duties within the prison environment, namely fire extinguishers are in date and working correctly, door seals and fire hoses are in working order to ensure the safety of both prisoners & staff alike, ACCT Assessor ( Assessment care in custody & teamwork) this involves speaking to prisoners on a one to one basis who have suicidal thoughts or thoughts of self harming to reduce the risks for themselves or help them overcome the problems they facing at this time of crisis, but more importantly to find the cause of there feelings. I also spent 17 years in the Territorial Army ( Royal Signals ) were i rose to the rank of sergeant. My duties consisted of providing secure radio communications for the regiments I was attached to, this culminated in being me selected to do one exercise in the USA for the special forces (SAS & Pathfinders) , I also gained my class C HGV licence. I also possess a Level 3 Award (city & guilds) in Understanding the Principles & Practices of Assessment and recently added a Level 3 Award (City & Guilds) in Education & Teaching. I have also been trained by the prison service to become a Key Worker Champion, this requires me to train new and existing staff all the skills they need to work as an effective and motivational key worker. As a result of my experience within the custodial environment, and gaining my EATS and Assessment qualifications I was seconded to the Training department in 2017 to teach people from all walks of life who wish to become a prison officer the skills they need to become an effective prison officer in their new chosen role.
