Direct and deploy all bioinformatics efforts in support of DAIT and NIAID research initiatives.Provide authoritative leadership and direction in conceptualizing, planning, designing, developing, and implementing novel, state-of-the-art bioinformatics and computational biology applications, models, technologies, and guiding principles for data release in direct support of the scientific and research mission of DAIT and NIAID.Provide expert leadership in conceptualizing, designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating extremely large, highly complex bioinformatics applications, projects, and studies.Develop novel, ground-breaking guidelines, policies, and standards for bioinformatics and computations biology activities and applications within the Division.Represent the overall bioinformatics program in strategic and long-range planning discussions with the DAIT Director and other senior NIAID and NIH officials.Provide leadership and scientific/bioinformatics expertise in the planning and implementation of research concepts, projects, and initiatives in the area of bioinformatics.Serve as a leading authority in bioinformatics, including the development of research data standards for data sharing particularly in the area of immunological research; serve as an authoritative representative of the NIAID and as an expert consultant with NIH as well as to outside agencies.

I led the Bioinformatics Core at the Genome Center of UC Davis to provide expertise and infrastructure for the acquisition, curation, analysis, and distribution of large complex datasets as well as develops and performs computations, analyses, and simulations addressing a wide variety of biological questions from genomics to network biology. The Bioinformatics Core had staff members with overlapping expertise in computing infrastructure, web/database, scientific programming, biological annotation, and statistics. The core provides bioinformatics support for the wet-lab service cores as well as for researchers with independent bioinformatics needs.
